do you think Momoko has what it takes to be a variety idol like Sayu?

No. That burikko character is actually rather obnoxious outside of the usual idol fandom. Sayu makes it work because she gives it some depth with her quick wit, her genuine beauty, and her dark sense of humor. Momoko has none of those things.

What Momoko does have is just enough intelligence to know when she's being laughed at (not with), after which she sulks like a child a third her age.

People love to hate Sayu's character, and in a strange way, that makes her popular. People simply hate Momoko's character — even her own groupmates roll their eyes at it — and they want her off as soon as possible.

I also don't think she fits in like Sayu does...
Sayu always find something interesting or turns the situation around to make it funny and you immediately forget everything bad she might have said and she know how to react when someone insults her or mocks her.

Momo on the other hand is fully focused on being the burikko of the group and showing off her caracter this way but she handles it in a "childish" way of cute while Sayu is just "Sayu cute" without overdowing it.
From the reaction of the guest sitting on her right you can see he's pretty irritated at first by her attitude and I only see her as a brat TBH ><
I never liked her anyway so..

You can tell a couple times that Sanma-san and Shouji don't really know what to make of Momoko. It's like Sanma-san wants to ask Aichan and Sayu why they brought this woman-child to what's supposed to be a grown-up, slightly naughty show, but since he can't without being rude, instead he snipes at Momoko's obviously rehearsed schtick to try to throw her off.

Thus is born "SANMACHI-BEEEEEEAM!"
