Not everyone is from America, or even the English speaking world. "Jap" is only offensive if you allow it to be, or is intended out of malice. Obviously it wasn't a racist remark. In the slightest.

Lighten up people.

Oh, English-speaking world.

It's not racist at all from where I hail from, and I never thought it even was until Americans on the Internet said so. I used to say it myself, but stopped. Same thing for blackface. I can understand why it can be offensive, but don't assume it's meant in a derogatory way when a foreigner says it. It's more about ignorance/cultural differences than anything else.

This is the °C-ute thread though.

Yes otaku, it was used derogatorily in WW2.

And otaku, I think of you as a good guy. Nobody at all is assuming you meant it offensively; I hope you don't think that. We're just saying it is, for historical reasons, offensive in English. And not just in America, either. Here is a letter from Ken Okaniwa, Minister of the Japanese Embassy in London, stating that the word is offensive to Japanese people.

And as a general rule, on this forum it is inappropriate to use words that are perceived as slurs relating to nationality, ethnicity, "race," gender or orientation.

I consider this matter closed but if anyone feels the need to opine further, please move it to the Random Thread or the Karaoke Bar.

Interview with Chisato:
http://news.dwango.jp/index.php?itemid=5861&catid=6

Partial translation from 910 Percent:
Extracts of interview with Okai Chisato by DWango

―C-ute concert tour 2014 spring "C-ute no Honne (double meaning: C-ute's true heart , C-ute's real sound )" is to start since 5th April.

Okai: I've already received the set-list of the tour.
We'll perform various songs from our old albums, to the newest songs.
I can't say the details yet.
You may surprised at the set list.
"Wow I haven't guessed that!"

―The subtitle is 「℃-ute no Honne」
Okai: I was also surprised at the title.
「We always speak what we are thinking honestly, frankly.
We don't hide anything~
When something made us feel bad, immediately we frankly say that each other.
Because we have walked together over ten years, our bond is strong.

―I heard that Honne has the meaning of "Real sounds" too.
Okai:
Yes, C-ute wanna show the best performance as good as possible.
C-ute always aim for high level performance
We wanna have self confidence and unite one and concentrate on singing.
We wanna show nice performance not to fall behind the other H!P groups. and made a lot of people say "C-ute's performance is outstanding so much!"

― I think C-ute is the most talented group in H!P
Okai:
Watching DVD of ℃-ute, I think "If I weren't the member, C-ute is more perfect!"

―No no, C-ute needs all of the five piece.!
Okai: Thank you.
Actually... Mai absented a concert because of flu.
I sang a part of Mai "Bagel to Ham an Cheese"
"Eh? When I sing the part, the impression of the song is different at all!"
Mai-chan's voice makes C-ute brighter~
The experience made me feel strongly.
"C-ute can't do anything without any member."
To tell the truth, I wanna get singing parts more.
But I noticed that.

―What is the goal of C-ute in 2014 ?

Okai:I wanna stand on the stage of Budokan.
various artists say "It's difficult to hold second live in Budokan".
According to them, for first live,
They say "It's the first time! I wanna go there for a good memory"
and come.
But for second time is difficult.
Real fight starts from second time.

After hearing that, I decide we don't have the time to be glad the sold out of Budoukan!

If we can do it again. I wanna set the stage in the center of Budokan, and fill 360 degree of the venue with audiences.

―Okai-san gradually get better to express yourself in TV talk show and etc. What kind of variety show do you wanna appear on?

Okai
『Ikinari! OugonSeikatu』
I wanna appear on the TV with full members of C-ute.
In the program, we five try to live an uninhabited island with no money.

C-ute haven't been good at talking.
We get nervous in TV studio.
So , I think Closely cover, document show is good for C-ute.
And, when we get so popular.
I wanna appear on "Jyounetsu Tairiku (Popular Document show)

Chisato's voice doesn't suit this king of song and she's off key? Airi would sing it much better.
They should let Airi sing this one and let Chisato sing love take it all.
