Toki o Kakeru Shōjo (he Girl Who Leapt Through Time) (2010)

At first I thought it was going to be like the 2006 animated version, and then I found out both of these versions are sequels of the original story. But anyway, I loved this movie. At first it seemed a little silly, but the ending was really good.

I really want to see the 1983 version.

I also watched Fargo yesterday. I liked all the Minnesota references, from the accent to the loons, and I even caught how they said "...and we'd like you to come with" or something on TV.

Ooh, must see! *adds to My List on Netflix* I loved the 2006 version; it's my favorite non-Ghibli anime. (Of course, it's very Ghibliesque itself!)

I also watched Fargo yesterday. I liked all the Minnesota references, from the accent to the loons, and I even caught how they said "...and we'd like you to come with" or something on TV.

I was fascinated when I first heard someone (a girl from Milwaukee) say "come with." It struck me as so very German.

My friend who lives in Fosston (near Bemidji) doesn't have a strong Minnesota accent, but his mom sounded like she was straight out of Fargo.


My latest movie: Trog (1970) — Joan Crawford (in her final film) plays an anthropologist who is studying a defrosted "missing link" who was found living in a nearby cave. The actor playing "Trog" wears an ape costume left over from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Cheesy ridiculousness.

Center Stage (阮玲玉) (1991) — Maggie Cheung stars as Ruan Lingyu, the legend of Chinese silent cinema who committed suicide at the age of 24. It's an interesting biopic-documentary hybrid, sprinkled with behind-the-scenes material and clips from Ruan's actual films.

At the San Francisco International Film Festival I saw Good Ol' Freda, a wonderful new documentary about Freda Kelly, who was the Beatles' secretary from 1962 to 1972. It's a fascinating film, in which Freda tells loads of great stories about the Beatles, their families, and their inner circle, but to this day she remains a model of loyalty and integrity. In addition to the interviews, there are loads of previously unseen photos and even actual Beatles recordings on the soundtrack — something unheard-of in a low-budget indie documentary, but since the film was for Freda (she wanted to record her story for her grandson), the surviving Beatles made it happen. Magnolia bought the distribution rights, so if you're a Beatles fan, look for a wider theatrical release and a DVD this fall.

Saw Frozen today! I really liked it

I just got home from seeing one of the greatest movies ever! No, I don't mean that Peter Jackson thing that purports to be an adaptation of one of my favorite children's books. I'm talking about Nuigulumar Z: Gothic Lolita Battle Bear!

Multi-talented Nakagawa Shōko stars in the latest barrage of insanity from Iguchi Noboru, director of The Machine Girl, Karate-Robo Zaborgar, and Zombie Ass: Toilet of the Dead (not to mention S/mileage's J-horror movie, Kaidan Shin Mimibukuro - Igyō). Battling lolitas, zombies dancing the Awa Odori, teddy bears possessed by extraterrestrial organisms… you know, one of those films that could only be made in Japan.

I need to go see Catching Fire and Frozen at some point. Maybe when I go Christmas shopping.

By the way, if anyone has recommendations for good foreign films that are on Netflix, I'd be interested in them <3

Daremo Shiranai (Nobody Knows)
Well, I'm not good at writing reviews, so just check it, it's a totally worth to see movie.

I actually am in the middle of watching that! It's not that I usually watch movies bit by bit. I'm just been busy. Anyway, I really like it so far.

That's such a great film! Those kids are AMAZING. Another really good one by the same director (and also available streaming on Netflix) is I Wish (Kiseki).

KOREAN - The Host (Gwoemul), The Warrior (Musa)

VIETNAMESE - Owl and the Sparrow (Cú và chim se sẻ)

GERMAN - Nowhere in Africa (Nirgendwo in Afrika).

If you meant foreign films that Netflix has available on DVD, I can recommend even more….
