Well, I had a great day today! I took Amtrak down to Santa Clara — a straight shot from Richmond BART to Great America Station, 80 minutes for $19 — and got to the convention center just after they'd opened the doors for presale ticket holders. After picking up my autograph ticket, I hung out with the JPHiP gang in the lobby, and I was the first to spot Kikka when she arrived.
Once everyone in the group had autograph tickets, we went out for lunch. When we got back, Kikka's merch booth had been set up, and she was there! Since Idiot Boy forgot to pack his
Best of YOU! CD, even after agonizing about it arriving on time, I had to buy something to get signed. So I bought the regular edition of
One for YOU! (first press, only $10!) and got a set of two free photos with it. I shot one of my own while I was at the table:
Then I noticed that they had some of those panda t-shirts like the one kikkawame got (
in my size, even!) for only $15
, so I went back, bought that, got another free set of photos, and this time I had Slack from JPHiP take my picture with her:
Waiting outside the auditorium where the main stage was, we got to hear essentially her whole set during rehearsal/sound check. When she hit Kago's high note in "I WISH", a lot of us outside cheered.
Kikkawame has already posted the essentials about the concert itself. When Kikka asked how many people had seen her perform live before, so few hands went up that she had to refer to her notes to see whether she had asked the question correctly.
But only about a dozen people raised their hands, so Kikka commented, "Sukunai." (Not many.) I'm not sure whether all the Japanese wota who were there raised their hands, though. There wasn't a huge crowd at the concert in the first place, maybe about a hundred, certainly less than 150.
After the concert was Kikka's autograph session. The turnout for that was so weak that the staff members conferred and decided to let people without tickets get autographs, and they even let the dozen or so who had already got autographs but were still hanging around go through a second time. So I got to talk to her a couple of times and get two things signed, even though they said that wouldn't be possible.
Maybe attendance was poor because it's Friday. Hopefully things will pick up tomorrow. I URGE ALL OF YOU WHO ARE IN THE AREA TO COME DOWN AND SHOW KIKKA YOUR LOVE! WE NEED TO SHOW UP-FRONT THAT THE BAY AREA IS A WORTHWHILE PLACE TO SEND THEIR ARTISTS!
