Personally, I have always been opposed to this.
The younger you get them, the longer they can potentially stay in the group and the least vulnerable they are to typical scandal scenarios.
Half the fun of idols is watching how they grow and evolve. That's harder to do when they're already pushing 18-19.

Of course if a great idol does come along and she's a bit older (example: Haruna) by all means put her in.

Oh and if there are any Trainees I'd like to see put in: it would be Rikako. It just make sense.
There are other Trainees that are really full of potential (Taguchi/Murota/Riko to name but a few). But Rikako is a no-brainer.
Either that or give her a totally new group.

I honestly don't care about age as long as they can keep up.

As for the "next Amuro Namie" he didn't say that. He said someone LIKE her and she has been active since she was like 13-14 anyway.
But being whatever age doesn't mean anything, if we're seeing a mature 12 year old in the audition, why not? It all comes down to who they are as a person anyway. Some 14 year olds still act 11 while some 12 years old behave like 16 so, it doesn't really matter. The important thing is that they can keep up with the rest of the group, really.

It's a bit of a catch 22. Being either an older or younger new girl both have their merits and drawbacks.

Me, I just don't want it too young. And I absolutely agree that half the fun is watching the girls mature.

H!P Kids took it too far. Way too young, but damn, look how those girls turned out.

I've always liked my girls to be older when they get in. I'm not even saying 17 and up, my usual line is about 14 or so. I'm not really comfortable having an 11 year old in the group, though I suppose Haruka worked out for the best.

I think right now though, they need a balance. With Haruna, Mizuki, Erina, Ayumi, and Sayumi all being 16 and over and Masaki, Haruka, Riho, Kanon, and Sakura all being 15 and under we have a good balance of older and younger girls. Too many younger girls or too many older ones will throw off the balance I think they have.

That being said, I'd like 2 girls in (at most three) one in the 12-15 year old range and one in the 16-18 year old range. If we see Rikako in the finals, I'm pretty sure she's a shoo-in.
