Yeah, Haruna and Erina definitely can't sing. But they can be hilarious/good on TV a lot better than Riho/Ayumi/Sakura. So they're still needed.

I actually like Haruna's singing, yes it's limited but give her the right lines I just find her enjoyable to listen to...I could imagine her improving enough to do what Sayu does now and she's by no means a dead weight.

I wonder... looking at those schedules what are the chances we'll get this audition result sprung on us all of a sudden? say around the single release...it's been too long since Tsunku's last surprise announcement.

I Love Ayumi to DEATH But girl can't sing lol. I'd rather listen to Haruna any day.

I want some strong singer/s this time around.

^^I agree -- and singing ability is really a secondary consideration with Morning Musume (as it is with almost all current idol groups - with a lot of groups, singing ability isn't even on the map ).

Haruna's got so much charm (which is the real currency of the idol world) that it hardly seems right to call her dead weight in reference to anything.

Liking someone's voice doesn't make them technically good or able to lead a song though. Which was what I meant when I pointed out Haruna and Erina. Ayumi falls into that category too, almost, but she's not a background member so she doesn't really go with them.
Right now the background girls that are vocally weak are Erina and Haruna, but they make up for it by being great variety members which is why I would never call them dead weight.


As for Haruna, I do hope she lands a regular TV job soon. She's said so much she's aiming for regular on Hanasaka Times and man, it'd be so great if she got that. And if she DID, eventually I could see her graduate to get more of that kind of jobs. But we'll see.
