Besides, it's not like singers haven't made appearances on tv shows via satellite

Arashi is not on the show probably because this internal thing in Johnny's - the SMAP&co fraction and the Arashi&co fraction.
The 2 fractions have not been on the same TV program except MS, Kohaku and FNS year end for at least a year now.
