Half-Japanese people born and raised in Japan I pretty much count as Japanese. They're grown up with the culture and language and thus that wouldn't be an issue. Someone who's lived there for just... a year or some even, I wouldn't want in. Really. But if they'd NEED to put foreigners in H!P in one way or another, at least give them a separate group.

Um, have you read the things people say about the current members? No one is safe.

As far as I'm concerned, Heidi falls into a different category for one reason which to my way of thinking overrides a lot of other things: There's a reasonably good chance that she comes here and reads the things that we post, or that she will in the (possibly very near) future. She may have an account at Jplop, or just lurk here. Even if she doesn't, she's probably just one or two degrees of separation from some of us here. That has happened before at JPM, on more than one occasion.

As far as I'm concerned, that makes her very possibly part of this community already, so I want to speak about her and to her with the kind of consideration which I hope we would have for any other members of this community who are trying (or thinking of trying) to break into the Jpop idol world.

I agree. But that doesn't mean that I think it's any more okay to go around and call just joined kenshuusei "Ugly/Fat Kana" for example. Or keep bringing up how fat this or that member is. Just because they don't read the forum.

That's an excellent point, and I definitely agree. I think it's important to keep in mind that the people we talk about are people, and not just walking targets in a shoot-em-up video game. There's enough of that kind of thinking around in the world already!

They're people and most of them not even 18. Some kenshuusei aren't even teenagers.

The whole picking on Kenshuusei or Idols or whoever, or who has it "worse" is irrelevant.

The big deal about people shooting Heidi down immediately, is just that: they shot her down immediately. No one was even talking about her making it into or wanting her in MM, because realistically? It is never going to happen. But the comments after hearing that she auditioned? "Thank god. She's stupid. She's not as good as Cuca." That is what's the problem. You all shot her down immediately, because she is a white girl, no matter how many red herrings you try and throw out. But as stated previously, had she been some kawaii Asian girl, then it would have been no problem that she had tried.

It's one thing to not want your precious MM tainted by foreign members, but it's another thing to openly post about being glad at someone's failure. We've all got dreams, can't we at least be kind to those who try and pursue theirs?

Heidi does need to work on her dancing.

I won't shy away from it because she might be lurking.

But also I won't shit on anyone's dreams. She is cute and would look great in Shin Coconuts Musume if Tsunku ever felt like making a new English speaking foreigner group.

I saw a Heidi video after I saw she auditioned. She needs work but hey she's better than I ever could be so kudo's to her and anyone else who does dance videos because that stuff is hard. And besides, some of the girls in H!P need to work on their dancing too. She kind of reminds me of a newly joined Erina and maybe Haruna when she dances XD (Limbs flailing, but alot of energy!)

I think we had a similar discussion and agreed that adding a foreigner to Morning Musume would be a bad decision. Mostly because of how Jun/Lin were handled and received by the Japanese Casual fans. We also agreed on a new coconuts! I'd love that. Still think they (and anyone else in H!P) should work with David Guetta and get popular in the states! Haha

Also I saw on her video that she said her Japanese isn't very good. I know she blogged in Japanese which may seem like she is pretty good and hey it shows that she does have some skill, but Japanese is very very complex and the level of sofistication required to be an idol must be at near fluent. This is probably the main reason she didn't make it to round two. It's no fault on her part, it's just because the idol world is very strict. I'm sure the odds are against her and being foreign your Japanese has to be top notch and your dancing and singing very polished before you can even be considered. And that's not us that's probably H!P and UF. Hiring foreigners is risky so the requirements are most likely alot higher.
