An other surprise was how popular Momoko is.. you could easily tell looking at the pink t-shirts and glow sticks but mainly the chanting-parting really made it obvious.

Momo domination. It's real.

I wonder if that is the real problem with BK - the popularity of the Momochi character.

Because Momoko spams her character on variety shows constantly, and because she also plays Momochi in BK, that she is turning people off to BK?

While Momoko's character has a following, her character is (on purpose) "bad style" to be the point of being "disgusting". BK was supposed to be a cool, "good style" idol group. But, if your most noticeable member is acting as uncool as possible I think it is poisoning non-momochi fans attitude towards BK.

Yeah so we could either make Momochi go away, or make the other members more outgoing and talkative and make them equally memorable so it'd be a nice balance.
I'm sure there are people disliking everything Momochi does and that means Berryz, too. Especially internationally - but lol who cares about international fandom anyway. But what Momochi does IS putting Berryz Kobo out there, making people know they exist and she does mention them quite a lot on TV when she appears there. So it's hardly a bad thing. They might not gain FANS from it, but they do get exposure and that's better than not having any exposure on variety at all. Now if only the other 6 could start thinking in terms of variety as well.

In my opinion, no one in BK needs to graduate, and no one in BK needs to lose weight.

What they do need to do (and it's what all idols need to do at some point or another) is figure out some gimmick to increase their popularity.

Back in the day

Mari spammed her "Sexy Beam" gimmick.
Yossie spammed her Takarazuka Theater Otokoyaku character
Rika spammed her "Charmy" character

Later on

Chisato spammed her "look at me I can do YouTube dance videos" thing
S/Mileage spammed their short skirts thing.
Erina and Mizuki spammed their PonPon gimmick.

So what can the members of BK do?

That's something they will have to figure out for themselves before they fade away into obscurity.

Guys, I understand you personally don't enjoy the Momochi character, but she became very popular because of it (she was always below Miya and Risako on Mixi rankings before... if that means anything - but she clearly gets the loudest cheering these days) and Berryz' sales aren't hurting right now. It's exposure, Berryz Koubou exists whenever Momochi appears on TV. The other girls need to step their game up - having Miyabi or Chinami is always fun to see, for example.

I personally don't like Momoko's character (But I don't HATE it like some) but I give Momoko all the credit. ALL THE CREDIT.

I for one LOVE Momochiis character it makes me chuckle at how easily angered some people get

Berryz does get the short end of the stick choreography wise. I don't know what's going on there but it needs to be fixed.

Sayonara Usotsuki had pretty "kick" ass choreography imo.

I said Berryz got the short end of the stick PV-wise. Because they did, you can't really argue that C-ute and S/mileage didn't get much nicer PVs. Songs, it's subjective I guess, but as much as I have grown to love Chinatown this single as a whole feels more like a double b-side than a double a-side to me.

But KA is a rare case of a good PV from a decent budget in a long time for HP. Besides having a few extra shots filmed, it was actually really low budget just edited well.

I think Momochi has been another of a gimmick already which made no significant impact on sales (Cha Cha Sing). But yeah, they need to establish some sort of gimmick for being a group. Besides being a group for 10 more than years and being formed from HPKids, what else are they to the general public? Like C-ute had their comeback thing and performance group gimmick, MM has the new additions gimmick and so forth.
