GPT is a language model. It analyzes a massive amount of sample text in order to "learn" how language is used, and then it makes calculated guesses about how to produce its own text one word at a time.

Code is just another language to GPT.

However, you still need a creative mind to have the idea, form the query, and evaluate the response. You don't hear much in the news about all of the training GPT has gone through, nor about all of the garbage it still produces.

Think of GPT as the proverbial monkey at a typewriter. Given enough time, the monkey will produce the complete works of Shakespeare, but will the monkey know it?

You're right. GPT is far from perfect and you still need to have some idea of how to manipulate it, like you said, but I think it'll eventually be a pretty decent tool for coding help in some situations.

I think humans working alongside/with AI is a better scenario, rather than us entirely relying on it. Ultimately, the human element is always needed. At least currently -- and probably for a while.

Just an fyi that Imgur are updating their terms of service. Of primary note:

Our new Terms of Service will go into effect on May 15, 2023. We will be focused on removing old, unused, and inactive content that is not tied to a user account from our platform as well as nudity, pornography, & sexually explicit content. You will need to download/save any images that you wish to save if they no longer adhere to these Terms. Most notably, this would include explicit/pornographic content.

The explicit content shouldn't affect us, but if folks are uploading stuff anonymously, those types of pictures will be taken down it seems. I reckon as well that some of our older stuff might get taken down, so if there are any older images you like, now's the time to right-click, save...or whatever it is you Mac people do, looped-square something something :-P

Well this is going to be interesting: the only images I can't host locally for my Plex server are actor images.
Posters, banners, background art is all local, but those actor images I host on Imgur.

None of them are NSFW, but I'm reminded when tumblr pulled the same move and a lot of content was mistagged as NSFW.
Wonder if come May 15 I'll have a couple of blank images to replace.

They even acknowledge this may happen:
However, we will need to employ automated detection software to assist in identifying explicit content. We are aware of the limitations and issues with using automated detection means exclusively, so we will continue to use human moderators alongside automated detection.

Video embedding is also borked: the thumbnails have been replaced by captcha forms.

EDIT: Only on my tablet, though. Not on my phone or my desktop. Hmm.

EDIT: And now it’s okay on my tablet again. Hmm.

If the PHP scripts work the way I think they work, and if this forum is on shared hosting, then you’re almost certainly sharing the host with some bad actors. Content harvesting (which triggers the captchas), buggy and/or resource-intensive scripts (which causes the page-rendering lag), etc. This forum by itself does not get enough traffic to explain those things, not even with the crawlers and lurkers.

I've started re-hosting images on imgbb instead of Imgur anyway, but this is still good to know!

My 3+ year old all-in-one PC is done for, I fear! After the latest Windows Update, it started crashing in the middle of random tasks like watching videos. Got a BSOD with stop code UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION. Then got a black screen with "Reboot and Select proper Boot Device" so I did that. Tried to see if my BIOS needed an update and it crashed while I was in the middle of that process.

Since yesterday, it's been stuck in an endless loop of:
Reboot and Select proper Boot Device
Preparing Automatic Repair (which fails and the computer restarts again)
BSOD: BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO
BSOD: CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED
BSOD: SESSION_1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED (this is the last one I got before I gave up)

Soooo I ordered a new tower PC and bought a cable to (hopefully) transfer the files from my previous hard drive. I say hopefully bc I don't even know if they're still there.

(And before anyone asks, yes I tried to boot in Safe Mode and it won't even do that.)

Sounds like your hard drive or SSD died, so no operating system.

It was an HDD. I was already having issues with it loading slow as heck so I maybe should've seen that as a red flag. :') My brother very graciously gave me a flash drive with a backup on it to try, and it wouldn't even register on the boot menu. :mikihead:

The flash drive is not going to show up if it's not properly formatted as/with a boot partition. And even there, standard Windows is normally restricted from booting from an external drive. If possible I'd recommend trying a flash drive with BartPE or better yet a "live" Linux partition just to test if your hardware is baseline functional. It sounds like it's probably ok (bricked drive aside) if you're getting the boot order menu in the UEFI. There's even a chance you can salvage files on the drive with chkdsk if stick it in an external drive case and plug it into a working pc. Forgive me if this is common knowledge to you already.

That's actually really good for me to know. I know how to use a computer as far as programs and stuff like that go but have 0 smarts about a lot of the actual processes, so I appreciate the info tbh!

Setting up the new PC (which is so fast!!) and I'm using a program to comb through my previous hard drive. It shows it has data on it, so that's a good sign. It found "hardware issues" which is not surprising. :|
