I'm starting to realize just how scrambled my pop-culture/personal memory of the late 80s through late 90s is mumble mumble something about mentally running away from my marriage/western pop culture/the inside of my head mumble mumble - I had somehow managed to semi-forget that one of the groups that I used to listen to obsessively just before I got into Jpop was Voice of the Beehive...

And they are still one of the all-time best groups of the late 80s/early 90s.

^ I’ll see that and raise you...

The CD was shared amongst my university friends, so much so that we forgot who originally bought it, and it ended up in my collection when we all graduated and moved apart.

I totally forgot about that song.

When I'm not listening to J-pop, I have a tendency to fall back on stuff that I was listening to in the '80s and '90s. My alarm clock radio is set to an '80s station. The same tendency holds when it comes to live music. Among the shows I've seen this year are Devo, the Damned, the Dickies, the Go-Go's, the Breeders, Sloan, and Belly. And within the next six weeks I'll be seeing a couple of my favorites from the '80s at a bar only a couple of blocks from my home: John Doe (from the legendary L.A. punk band X) and the Avengers (the seminal S.F. punk band featuring Penelope Houston).

The Avengers did some of the absolute best punk of that entire era. Corpus Christi is one of my all-time favorite songs.

These guys have a nice low key J-indies sound, maybe still need just a touch more polish but I could get into them. The only problem is that I can't shake the feeling that they're banking on people accidentally thinking they're buying an Aimer CD. :giggle:

I'm sure they'll be performing it. Kyrie eleison.

And I'm sure that it will be a powerful performance!

And now - for any obsessive Gang Parade fans (I know I'm not the only one) who need a Yui Ga Dokuson fix, the not-quite-official Dokuson Cam...

Just some things I'm loving right now!

GFRIEND - Memoria
Spoiler: show

It's their first original Japanese song! The single also has a JP version of Time for the moon night.

WJSN - Please (SAVE ME, SAVE YOU)
Spoiler: show

I do love this, but for someone who's supposed to be a "main vocal", where are Dawon's lines? :hmmm:

Dreamcatcher - What
Spoiler: show

Probably my favorite title track of theirs so far. Siyeon's voice is insanely good.
