I don't know why I didn't see datte as even, I somehow quickly went with tte, you're quoting someone or someone said this/that etc. With that in mind, it makes a bit more sense with the way you and koregaboku translated it. Also another problem is deshou, it's used as right but I read it's used a lot as probably as well. Ah...thinking too much, need to think more crazy literal and pay more attention!
