i doubt people really look at rankings that much. saying like "oh look, they got number 3, they seem relevant again, maybe i should get interested in them now". while sales, that's actual money. it's important for their survival. thank god for 9th and 10th gen because before it was announced i was afraid momusu would just slowly... die out. on purpose.

seriously??? for me it's sales>>>rank any day. no one is gonna be impressed with a string of #2 and #3 singles, especially if the sales suck.

If they get ranked #3 at Music Station on Friday, people would go "Oooh they got 3 o.o Is it that good?" even if the daily sales then are just 500 copies, while if they got ranked 10 with 4000 copies sold no one would give a damn.
If something ranks high, then it's gotta mean it's good - in Japan.
If something is #1, then it's good and people will like it, and people will like it because other people like it. That's how things work over there. For the public to know and pay attention to them, having higher ranks (aka attention) > having sales.

While, of course, in a business POV the sales matter more but that's not what I'm about here.

I think it's subjective. You're going to remember and talk about which ever can give you more bragging rights as a fan. #3 with low sales is still #3 but #8 with 71,000 copies sold is what we'd talk about forever and ever.
