Some friends of mine hosted Thanksgiving dinner at their house in Berkeley, so I was there with the usual suspects — minus one, who was out of town. It was your typical turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie, plus an assortment of other appetizers, sides, and desserts. I boosted the selection of sides by bringing corn (with and without diced green chiles) and my spicy apricot ginger glazed carrots. For the appetizer table I brought some dolmas (yalanchi sarma, as my kinfolk call 'em), which are a staple of my Armenian relatives' holiday gatherings.
