Model Press interviews Morning Musume. '22 Fukumura Mizuki and Oda Sakura about the final episode of Mayonaka ni Hello!, the message behind "I WISH,", the future of the group after Sato Masaki graduated, and their goals for 2022
Fukumura & Oda talk about changes after Sato Masaki's graduation and the future of the group
- The year 2021 was a year of change for the group after Sato Masaki's graduation, but what stage do you think Morning Musume. '22 is at now?
Fukumura : We are currently recruiting new members, so we don't know how long we can stay as a 13-member group. After Sato's graduation, rather than saying, "Let's just loosely stick together as 13," we said, "I hope we can solidify again before the new members arrive." I think there are a lot of parts that Sato herself was responsible for, and I think there are many parts that we need to work harder on in terms of performance, but I am sure that the members after the 12th gen will work even harder from this point on to create a new Morning Musume. '22 that we have not been able to create until now. I believe that they will bring out the charm, and I would like you to look forward to that.
Oda : I think Morning Musume. is a group that has been changing for 25 years. Tsunku-san once said, "Not completing is the secret to continuing," and that the goal tape will be cut if the peak is reached. We have been working with only the same members for more than two years now, which may seem like a very good balance to our fans, but I think now is the time to bring in new members to break the status quo and rework the group. I think Morning Musume. '22 should think, "Let's aim higher on a new path," rather than "Let's all fill the hole left" by Sato-san.
