The Tokyo Olympic Opening ceremony was pretty good.

My neighborhood live music venue just reopened tonight, and the opening night headliners were the Avengers! That's the seminal San Francisco punk band, not the Marvel superheroes.

I'll be seeing them again tomorrow, when they play at the Stern Grove Festival, opening for X! That's the seminal Los Angeles punk band, not the J-Rock band.

I could hardly ask for a better return to concert-going.

The Tokyo Olympics opening was awesome. It was surprising, hearing final fantasy music playing at some point during the ceremony

U.S. and Japan doing really well so far in the medal count.

U.S. dominating swimming, and Japan owning skateboarding.

Ebay appears to be looking for a punch in the face:

OK - I listen to a lot of Kpop as well as Jpop, but still, Ebay does seem to have a way of begging for a knuckle sandwich.

^Ebay… reminds me of the common interaction I’ll have with people in general (some of my friends for example) like they don’t know what’s “Jpop” and I’ll say it’s Japanese Pop Music and then they’ll say something like ohhhh you mean “Kpop”?? :-o no… that’s Korean Pop :giggle:

It irritates me that Apple Music continues to put H!P groups under the Kpop tag. Furthermore they aren’t acknowledged in the idol playlists either.

It’s a super big pet peeve of mine.

Went to my first concert since March 2020. Saw Japanese Breakfast last Wednesday, and it was amazing.

Lol, also saw an article about an Armenian cafe and market coming to a neighborhood close to mine and thought of erilaz. I don’t actually know anything about Armenian food.

^ Nice! I wish we had that here. There are Turkish restaurants in Berkeley and San Francisco, but it's not quite the same. I'll have to wait for the Armenian churches in the area to resume their Armenian food festivals to get the real experience (though I did make an excellent tass kebab at home a few weeks ago).

Full disclosure: I have marked preference for spicy food, and that's not really a thing in Armenian cuisine. For me, Armenian food is comfort food, something that I grew up with. So that's the real appeal for me. Speaking of spicy food, though, I went to an Indian restaurant (Clay Oven on West Portal) after yesterday's concert in San Francisco. It was the first Indian restaurant I've ever visited that had chili naan on the menu, so I ordered that, of course. It did not disappoint.

Seeing X and the Avengers at Stern Grove yesterday was quite an experience. It was X's first show in 18 months and Stern Grove's first punk-rock show ever. Since X released a new album recently, there were actually four new songs in the set. That hasn't happened since the 1990s. It was a free concert, so I got in line two hours before the gates opened and scored a great spot in the front row of the amphitheater seats, behind the soundboard. I normally prefer to see X from the front of the stage (Exene handed me a bottle of beer once), but I had no desire to sit on the ground for 4+ hours. To quote Danny Glover as Roger Murtaugh: "I'm too old for this shit."
