There's a Peruvian place about three miles down the road, and I finally gave it a try a couple of months ago. Pollo a la brasa with garlic rice and salsa criolla: YUM!

There are a lot of good restaurants in my area (Central American, Ethiopian, Mexican, Thai, Filipino, etc.) - I feel like trying them all, if when this lousy hiding-from-the-plague-zombies game is over. (I could get home delivery from at least some of them, and I might go for that at some point, but at the moment, it just seems like too much of an unsatisfactory half-measure. But maybe I should do it anyway - I'n not sure that there's much point in holding out for the return of the Good Old Days.)

I’ve been doing mainly Hello Fresh, for a couple of years now at this point. It’s really helped with cutting down on useless groceries purchases. During the pandemic I was getting 4-5 meals a week but have since cut back to 3 again now that restaurants have reopened and a lot of mastered the art of takeout. Of all the meal prep services I liked theirs the best. I tried a few just to see what else was out there.

My area (the burbs) isn’t a takeout area so a lot of restaurants had to learn to be takeout restaurants. I signed up for a local Facebook group that kept track of all the local restaurants in my area and it helped to know who was open, what was good. I found a lot of new places I eventually want to try. There’s an Indian fusion place that seems really appealing to me. Also one of the local restaurants owners was keeping a daily dialogue about the struggles of going from dine in to take out. Such a sweet lady just trying to keep her Dad’s dream (family restaurant) alive. She also talked about trying other restaurants and comparing product. Turns out they’ve got amazing pizza. Some of the best in the area. (And that’s a low bar) So she’s getting more of my business on pizza alone.

It's アツイ!アツイ!アツイ!アツイ!アツイ! time in Southern California right now, so I'm figuring out the best strategies for getting paletas/ice cream etc. delivered with minimal meltdown problems. So far, the best approach seems to be a) order from a nearby store, b) set the delivery time for late in the day, c) have a place already reserved for them at the back of a freezer shelf, and d) rush them into the freezer ASAP. :fear:

^ Today it's only supposed to reach 82℉ here, but yesterday we had a high of 99℉, which is almost unheard of in my part of the Bay Area.

It's going to be 102~111 here in the valley. I hope the electricity doesn't go out.

It's 100 F right now - apparently it hit 106 a while ago. I got the paletas (in this case, esquimales and bolis) safely in the freezer. This is about the time that I really start to think about how nice it would be to have a walk-in freezer. :fear:

My sister and her husband (and their giant dog) have been visiting from out of state for the past two weeks, leaving tomorrow morning. I'm really sad my sister is going to be gone again, but I have missed my routines and personal time (and not having to deal with our cat x their dog).
