The artistic types among us might enjoy this…

You need to click around to get the full effect. Especially the "Munsell" switch on the right.

From another thread…

Moh wrote:Thank you for the gifs! However, since gifs take up a lot of bandwidth, I've added a spoiler tag to your post. Welcome to the forum btw! :)

Spoiler tags do not prevent images from being downloaded; the SHOW/HIDE switch just toggles the visibility property on the div container. (Embedded media players are another story, because they have initialization scripts.) But as long as animated GIFs are kept in the GIFs thread, I don't think anyone minds. We know what we're getting into when we enter that thread.

^oh yeah i saw the edit and i was kinda worried about that since spoilers don't stop it from loading, but i'm gonna use them anyway going forward so the gifs at least don't flood the page completely lol

Yeah I probably should've used a term other than bandwidth, but... oh well. Y'all surely knew what I meant anyway!

Oh, you meant scrolling through a long page. Okay, yeah, that's a good use for spoiler tags. :thumbs-up:

The current lockdown has caused widespread panic buying and massive disruptions in supply chains. Regular grocery stores often have empty shelves, while restaurant suppliers have surplus inventory. As such, some of those restaurant suppliers are opening their doors to the public.

Now you might be thinking a restaurant supplier is a "warehouse club" like Costco, Sam's Club, or maybe GFS. Sure, it's the same basic idea, but those stores are pale imitations for filthy casuals. The real thing operates on another level entirely.

So, if you are running low on essentials and have refrigerator/freezer space to spare, look for a restaurant supplier in your area and then call to ask if they're open to the public. For example…

Watching breakfast toast videos gave me this interesting recommendation

Watch Japanese girl wake up and make a pizza toast on her day off. All of a sudden, she sings a familiar tune at 9:42

It's snowing here.

I thought it might have been an early-morning flurry before the day warmed up, but nope, it has continued all morning and is now starting to accumulate.

This is a late snow even for Michigan.

For reference, the first snow of this season…

So I underestimated when I said "we're looking at a five-month winter, probably"…

viewtopic.php?p=248300#p248300

Turned out to be five and a half months. Pure Michigan.

This next bit is only for the Americans here.

If you've heard that other people already received their "Economic Impact Payments" and you're wondering where yours is, check your 2018 and 2019 tax returns. If you ended with an amount owed rather than a refund, you probably did not provide your Direct Deposit information to the IRS. And the IRS cannot determine your eligibility without that information, regardless of whether you meet the other requirements (e.g., residency, income limits).

The IRS has a portal that lets you check your current status…

https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payments

…but it is still working on a portal that will let you update your information. Failing that, the IRS will have to physically print and mail a check to you, and that will happen some time between "months from now" and "never".

For more information…

Finally, I've noticed that we're getting a lot of guests/lurkers these days. 104 right now, as I type this. I'm sure many of those are spambots, but not all of them. So, to the rest of you, hello!

if it passes, we could get $2,000 a month until this crisis is over. Canada is already doing it.

The Emergency Money for the People Act, introduced by Reps. Tim Ryan and Ro Khanna, would give $2,000 a month to Americans over the age of 16 who make less than $130,000 a year.

The payments would continue for at least six months and would last until unemployment falls to pre-coronavirus levels.

"A one-time, $1,200 check isn't going to cut it," Khanna said. "Americans need sustained cash infusions for the duration of this crisis in order to come out on the other side alive, healthy, and ready to get back to work."
