I just found out that the Pen-Pineapple-Pen guy has a large part in the new Super Sentai (but is not one of the Sentai).

I saw a robin today. It's officially spring in Michigan.

I told my mother all last year that I thought we would have a mild winter, and we did. But I think we're also going to have a cool spring, which is… not great. Not for a state whose economy is based largely on agriculture and tourism.

With all the COVID-19 news going around, I finally learned why 70% isopropyl alcohol (a.k.a. rubbing alcohol) is better than 91% at disinfecting. You can find both at your local drug store, but it turns out the weaker solution is actually better at passing through the cell membranes of microorganisms and then killing them from the inside. The stronger solution either fries the cell membranes or simply evaporates before it has an effect. I never knew that before; I made the same assumption that many people do, that stronger is better.

So what is the 91% used for? Apparently it's more often used as a cleaner or solvent, especially in situations where rapid evaporation is desired because water residue might cause damage. The next obvious question, then, is why is the 91% on the shelf right next to the 70%, rather than on the other side of the store with the cleaning supplies? I don't know, man, I just work here.

Anyhow, update your first aid kits accordingly.

I went to the local store to see if they hand sanitizers left and everything was gone off the shelf, including isopropyl alcohol 90% and hand wipes. They had a buy limit of 6. I managed to find some isopropyl alcohol 50% else where.

I hope Tom Hanks and his wife will be okay from this.

We got a whole bunch delivered at work. But it's the cheap industrial stuff that essentially smells like gasoline.
I'm sticking to my own, more agreeable, supply for now.

Yeah. When I told my mom, she actually screamed out "WHAT!?" :fear: He seems to have a positive attitude about it and I think that'll ultimately help with their recovery.

The grocery stores were fine a couple days ago, and today they were insane. If only I could get away with Instacart.

There's around 27 confirmed cases of the virus in Florida. There aren't any reported in my county yet, but I'm just waiting for it. :T

Edit (9:20PM): Disneyland Resort is closing on Saturday; Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris are closing on Sunday. Parks will be closed until at least the end of the month. Employees will still be paid.

So I have leftover broccoli cheddar soup pre-portioned in mason jars. It's been in the refrigerator for a while. I just looked at the jars, and I see a white film on the sides. Given the natural color of the soup, I can't tell if that film is mold, or just dried soup from when I poured it into the jars, or maybe a combination of the two.

I know I should dispose of the soup, just to be sure, but I really don't want to waste it and my meal planning kinda sorta depends on it. Past experience has shown that I can handle a little mold, and I think I can skim off most of the film with a spoon before I reheat the soup.

Am I crazy?

In the future, I suggest you proportions the soup into ziplock bags and freeze them. It’s much easier to reheat a frozen soup and it also is an excellent space saver. You can boil it in the bag or microwave it.

It might just be solids from the soup or a little bit of evaporation going on.

Dairy-based soups (e.g., cheese, cream) do not freeze well. Otherwise, you're correct.

In this case, my mistake was that I didn't expect to keep these leftovers in the refrigerator for this long. Two days somehow became two weeks. I've been trying to do more meal planning and preparation, but the last two weeks have been awful for various reasons and my plans got trashed.
