Neat, Moh. Unfortunately the XBOX stuff isn't going away any time soon as it is now their general gaming brand. And I don't find Edge so bad for the times that I use it, but in any event it will be going away soon and replaced by a Google Chrome clone with a Microsoft skin that will also be called Edge.

I upgraded my PC a few months ago to something called a CyberpowerPC SLC6800BST, and I experienced a few setbacks right out of the gate, all due to my own fault. 1) I accidentally destroyed my main drive partition because of a very stupid mistake 2) I initially couldn't get Windows to reinstall because my BIOS wouldn't recognize the drive without a valid partition, and Windows wouldn't let me properly partition it without talking to the BIOS 3) I then tried running Linux from an external HD which mostly worked but it wouldn't do video acceleration with my graphics card 3) I added some RAM which didn't seem to work even though the system recognized the sticks -- it took me a while to realize it wasn't seated properly 4) after installing an m.2 SSD for which I had to use tweezers to reach the socket, finally figuring a way to install Windows onto it, getting the RAM working, and transferring all my software (which was another minor debacle in itself), it seemed for a minute that everything was working. But after a while I ran into another problem. 5) Frequently when I would download a large file, the drive I was downloading it to would dismount and take about 10 minutes to reboot. I thought I had a lemon but the issue ended up being caused by a buggy Firefox extension -- which, as with the rest of this sorry tale, took me an embarrassingly long time to suss out. But now everything is working peachy. I'm very happy and the SSD flies compared with my previous HDD.

From a few months ago, in another thread…

Also I’ve hated the tags for years. I can’t remember which year any of the damn songs came out and can never find them on my phone. I end up having to search each year individually to see if it’s there. Do you know how hard it is to build a playlist? Not to mention half of the time they are listed in Japanese (モーニング娘) and the other half are in English (Morning Musume) which are in opposite ends of the artist list when scrolling...

Don’t let me get started on trying to find a C-ute song on my phone. I have no clue how to make the Celsius degree thing and scrolling to find it is so annoying. :swear:

Edit:

Here is a screenshot of what I have to deal with:

If you are using iCloud Music Library to make your library available across devices, then you should be able to use iTunes on the desktop to edit the Sort As tags on all of those songs. It works even for purchased/downloaded songs; your personal library settings override the store's default settings, in most cases. (Cover artwork can be a little wonky.)

For example, in my library, the Artist tags for the individual songs are set to モーニング娘。'19, モーニング娘。'18, モーニング娘。'17, and so on, but the Sort As tags for all of the songs are set to "Morning Musume" (romanized, no punctuation, no year).

Same for other H!P groups — Artist is ℃-ute, Sort As is "Cute". And for that first character…

https://unicode-table.com/en/2103/

Since the old iTunes app has become the new Music app, at least on macOS Catalina, searching for songs according to their Sort As tags requires a couple extra steps. The main Search field in the side bar cannot search those tags; it is designed to work primarily with the Apple Music service. Instead, you must select one of the Library views (e.g., Artists, Albums, Songs) and then use the Filter field (View menu > Show Filter Field). That field is what we used to think of as the Search field in iTunes. Unfortunately, it does not stay "shown"; it is automatically hidden whenever you switch to another Library view.

NOTE: A previous version of this post a) was mistakenly posted in the other thread and b) included a mistaken rant about Apple crippling the search feature. Some additional research led me to realize the latter, and when I came back here to fix it, I also realized the former. Sorry for the confusion, if anyone actually noticed or cared.

It’s been raining all week. It’s been raining today. Didn’t think we would get many kids so I let the kids take as much as they wanted. But We ended up getting the most we’ve ever gotten in years! And I bought big candy bars too as well as some Cheetos (small bags). I’m gonna turn into that house. XD

^ I wonder if my friend Dwight is in that mass of humanity. He's in Tokyo right now.

Meanwhile, I spent my Halloween evening in Oakland. But since I was at a TsuShiMaMiRe show, I'm not complaining.

It was extra warm here in Halloween yesterday, like almost 80 degrees. Today it’s much colder like proper fall should be lol.

Also Halloween at school was fun. A team of students and teachers put together a haunted house in the basement of the school and it was super legit, like it was completely dark with smoke and a bunch of people were in scary costumes coming up to scream at you, and the science teacher was dressed as Pennywise waiting at the end.

I was in the office yesterday. Halloween in a corporate environment is kind of strange - I saw a Pennywise in the parking structure (complete with suit and briefcase), and it took me a second to remember that it was Halloween. XD

It was in the mid-70s outside (a mile or two from the beach), and for the next 10 days or so, it's going to be in the mid-80s inland. And the fire situation (throughout California) is pretty much unpredictable at this point - I was driving past charred hillsides on Sunday, and I could smell smoke yesterday morning, but so far, the air is clear in the San Gabriel Valley, and the local mountains haven't burned in a few years.

And I miss crisp, cold, Fall air - it's been years since we've had anything that even felt like it around here.

Of course, this evening has been perfect Halloween weather. Dry, cool but not cold, cloudy but not dark, with a nice little crescent moon peeking through and plenty of leaves on the ground after all of the rain this past week.

The smell of smoke was pretty strong in my neck of the woods Sunday and Monday.
