Right after finding it I learned that Kurosawa has since passed away from a brain tumor. That, plus knowing about Tsunku's own issues with cancer and his voice, and how excited I was just to find it, made watching it again (after years) a very different emotional experience.

^ I remember when Tsunku released that cover album of Beatles songs and I wish I still had a copy of it on my hard drive because I think I'd appreciate them more now. I doubt I'd ever find an original copy for sale now. Maybe if I did a lot of digging online. But back when I was a filthy newb I didn't appreciate the genius of Tsunku. :(

You might have luck on Amazon.jp? I know I've seen it on Y!A once or twice over the years.

Edit: Looks like it's on Y!A now.

On September 16…

Google translation of the video description…

JIJIPRESS wrote:Music producer Tsunku♂ attended a new song release press conference for the wadaiko group “SAI” and announced that he was working on his first wadaiko song. The group, formed at the University of Tokyo in 2005, is a Japanese drum group that has transmitted the charm of Japanese culture both at home and abroad. The collaboration was realized because Tsunku♂ received an enthusiastic offer from the group leader. Tsunku♂, whose vocal cords were removed five years ago in order to treat pharyngeal cancer, responded to reporters’ questions by typing characters on a computer. Regarding the song he produced, “Japanese season color (Shiki-Tasai)”, he said “This is the new Japanese entertainment”.

I did relatively little to clean that up. Mostly just the last two sentences, which were grammatically weird even in the original Japanese. Still, Google Translate continues to improve with Asian languages as long as the original content is written properly to begin with.

And here's the song…

Tsunku♂'s first picture book "Ne~e, mama? Boku no onegai!" [Let's read it aloud]

Tsunku's statement on releasing his book for free during Golden Week in these tough times.

He was born in 1968... The original series (which featured the Guntank) ran from 1979 to 1980... Yeah, the math checks out.
