That's so so sad. Although not surprising. I mean, basically Up-Front was like her home since she was a little kid. And then she got tossed out on her ass and seemingly ostracized by her adopted family. There doesn't seem to be anybody positive in her life to lead her out of this kind of tragic spiral. Even her own mom comes across as more of a destructive than a positive influence. When you're 23, your future can still be almost anything. But you have to be able to see a positive goal in your mind before you can make it real. And I think right now, all she can see on her own is darkness and despair. Someone reliable and honest to point her in the right direction might literally be the difference between life and death for her.
They had to pick the roughest picture of her's too
I think that when you're writing a story about a suicide attempt, juxtaposing it with a photo of the person looking glamourous and content would be an editorial decision in poor taste. So I think that photo is appropriate given the circumstances.
