My neighbor has throat cancer, and he can speak, it just sounds really raspy and quiet, so sometimes I can't understand what he says.

This is the first time I've seen a picture of Tsunku since 2013, so I'm really happy. This man has dedicated his life to music, and I'm glad that he's not letting cancer get in the way. Go Tsunku!

Well, Tsunku just appeared at the ceremony and confirmed he's removed his vocal chords and that he's now "living a new life" without a voice.



ffs. T_T But he looked very healthy, and that's the most important thing. ;~; Lost weight though.

I had no idea that Tsunku wouldn't be able to speak again. I'm sad but I'm happy that perhaps this means the canser won't return? Wow.

I seem to remember hearing that it was possible to speak once you had your vocal chords removed, but it's really difficult and doesn't sound the same at all as the person's original voice. He definitely wouldn't be able to sing or appear in the songs he produces.

You can still whisper-speak, of course, and you can almost reach a conversational volume if you put enough breath into it.

Through rehabilitation, there is a possibility of producing voice with esophageal. You will sound very differently than what you used to be but be able to communicate in daily life.

This is so sad...but glad he is healthy again.

Come to think of it, we all saw the signs this was happening:
music production came to halt for a few months, other songwriters taking over, he had someone read a message to Berryz before their final concert, etc.

Such awful news. To have his vocal cords removed must have been the toughest decision he's ever made. I just wish him all the best and I'm so glad he's still with us!

A Japanese friend of mine who has no interest in Jpop at all brought up the subject of Tsunku and was saying how tragic yet inspirational he was, and how the audience just broke out in applause when he said he would press forward with things he was able to do.

It seems that all Hello! Project members did not know that he has lost his voice until yesterday announcement. Only Sharan Q members and his closely related staff knew about it. H!P members were told by their managers/staffs while doing their duties yesterday. Maimi implied on her blog that Tsunku has been using texting on cellphone to communicate with the member for awhile now, so they probably just thought that he could not use his voice as a requirement for a treatment.
