A DVD case with 2 discs is also 200g. :whistling:

Frankly, all the fancy packaging on "special releases" that you guys are talking about might be eye catching, but in the end it just makes it harder to organize everything.
Yesterday at the store I saw Super Junior's most recent (?) release. Admittedly, it's a crap-ton of content for only being 4800 yen (2 full CD albums, mini-RB and a DVD with 10 tracks plus bonus concert footage) (...though I assume most of it has been released before, and that this is like a Japanese-language compilation style thing?), but it's SO HUGE and awkwardly-shaped, omg. It's as wide as a normal CD case, but just as thin if not thinner, and and more than twice as tall. "Aw yeah, a mini Photobook, I love those!" Except that the PB has these same ridiculous, wonked dimensions. It's just weird. I'd much rather everything packaged into the standardized CD jewel-case or DVD case format than have all this un-organizable weirdness with each release. ^^;;
But then everyone has their own preferences. I guess unique packaging is nice for the wow-factor at the store. :-o

k-pop packaging can be so annoying lol. the more subtle special packaging like slipcases and boxes tend to look better.

koregaboku wrote:But attaching a concert to a CD isn't industry standard. That's why it's usually reserved for first presses. By attaching a concert DVD, UF* is already going above industry standards. And considering it's a full concert and not select performances from a concert like a lot of other releases get, that's in it of itself really great .

If we really want to talk about industry standards I'd complain more about how DVDs usually only get one music video with a gajillion solo/dance shots. I'd rather have all of the relevant music videos instead+making of's.

that's why i said under industry standards in other areas i.e stuff not on the disc. i don't know how many people here actively buy stuff from other non H!P artists (((especially idols))) but there is a clear difference.

Sounds like a bargain, link me please. Even if I don't care for the artist I'm sure I can find someone willing to take it off my hand lol

I don't know where you got under 4000 yen from when Mixi just said they didn't pay 6k. Koda Kumi released an album that came with a concert, 15 music videos (all different. no dance shot etc.) and a digest video of another tour. It came in a regular big jewel case but it had a nice slipcase, glossy mini photobook that fit in between the slipcase and jewelcase, stickers, plus an external poster. All that for 5500 yen.

One example out of many.

I don't think many do (at least the ones thinking having no non disc bonuses is acceptable)

Because I've been shelling out an average of 4000yen per H!P concert DVDs since I can afford one? So for me having that + a full album and completely new ones at that, not some memorial or compilation stuffs, for 1000yen less is already a great deal. Sure I definitely wouldn't mind if they add even more value to that but really, after a certain point it's just comes across as nitpicking.

I usually open my discs exactly once to digitize it and off the the closet it goes to look pretty, so non-disc stuffs are non-essentials to me but hey, to each his own.

Exactly. It's acceptable because it's more than they've been doing in the recent past, and it's a step in the right direction.

Ok full disclosure, I do indeed buy a lot more niche (anime, game, idol) cd/dvds compared to mainstream pop ones so my knowledge of the standards over there are shakey at best, hence the genuine question on my first post in this thread.

However, I think comparing merchandising standards between mainstream pop and niche genres (or even among those same niche itself) when they operate under almost entirely different business model is not as straightforward as it seems. It's an interesting topic for sure... but maybe here 's not the right place for it?

Giving them energetic songs that only they can pull off, and sexy songs that only these girls can sing, makes me think that they really grew up to be splendid JPOP Artists before I knew it. I want them to keep being ℃-ute; professional entertainers for the sake of all their fans from now on too.

I'm probably going to buy the 6000yen version just because I know the quality of their live performance is worth it.

If I don't, it's only because I want a ton of other H!P stuff xD I'll be working again when school starts, although there are also school expenses so I'll see how things work out >.>

If I had that kind of money, I'd buy that CD/concert DVD version.

I am totally getting the 6000yen version ...if it's still around when I can listen to the album first and decide that I like it. I love C-ute, but it's rare when their albums are decent.
