I'm sure if any of us regulars post some link in the random thread, it wouldn't seem as much like spam (given that it's not inappropriate [without warning lol...], it's not some sort of virus or scam, it's prefaced by some explanations rather than just "hey guys, go do this", etc.). I think benefits come with establishing some part in the community, and the random thread helps with that too.

Putting on the TERROR mask just to point out that what esm said is correct. If you or any other regular or even semi/quasi regular person had suggested being an organ donor, and even provided a link, then absolutely it would be no problem. But for someone to join who has no interest in jpop whatsoever and is just promoting their pet cause, be it charitable or otherwise, is unacceptable.
