Q: for those who have learnt kanji as a foreigner, what would you suppose to be a reasonable rate of progress on a monthly basis? 50/mth? 100? more?

Learning kanji can be hard, but when you read sentences that have the hiragana substituted with kanji, you learn a lot quicker.
Anymore than 50 per month for me and it would be overwhelming.
Writing kanji is where I found it the most difficult.
I would suggest to any learner to just practice writing kanji in the
correct stroke order over and over again.
THIS is a great tool for such learning.

Reason: This had nothing to do with forum-specific meta-humor, but it does have a lot to do with kanji! XD

LOL
I think that イ radical represents person/human, and so if you have a person next to someone sad, they're being gentle? You need to handle a person with sadness gently? Idk lol
But, i've noticed this for awhile now but I didnt realize how much the 女 kanji/radical is used in negative words:

The 憂 element in 優 could just be there for its (Chinese) phonetic value: both kanji have the on-yomi
yū.

^THat's what makes it worse, though. xD
It's just annoying that they are so similar but mean different things. xD

I've been reading a piece on the
Tangut writing system (often considered to be one of the most difficult and impractical in the world) -- after even a little exposure to Tangut, everything about Kanji/Hanzi seems as easy as the Latin alphabet.
Just look at the tangut
numbers!

^^I know this is from way earlier in the year, but you sound just like the "Why Japanese People" guy who is the comedic flavor of the moment. His stuff cracks me up. (though I know some foreigners who find him annoying). He start out showing a facade of a foreigner with a bad accent, who is trying hard to speak the language, then he presents some kanji he's been studying before devolving into a perfectly fluent rage about the strangeness of the kanji that makes no sense.

So my friend taught me the parts of the body and omg, so many of them include 月 in their makeup.
腰、肘、膝、腕、胸、脚、脹脛、お腹。
like, that's a lot.
