It could very easily have been her choice. You know how big of an MM fan she was/is. Singing a cover of something might be more meaningful to her than a new random song would be.

True. It would make sense why she didn't get any solo songs on albums (she didn't right ?)

But, I still prefer an original song. Covers are usually boring.
