I think you might be overestimating how "known" Rikako is. As far as I know she didn't appear on a ton of variety or anything, just a few small segments on a couple of shows.

This article from aol is trending on yahoo videotopics right now and I've learned not to underestimate the Japanese media/internet community hype machine when they're determined to make a "thing" *cough*HashimotoKanna*cough*.
Helps a lot too if you've got a backstory like hers (the star of Kesennuma) that pretty much sells itself.

For my part I'd rather she be the focus of an entirely new group, mainly because I find the prospect of inevitable comparisons such as the one in the article ("if you combined Maeda Atsuko and Oshima Yuuko together you'd get a bishoujo like Sasaki Rikako) and the predictable back and forth that will ensues too tiresome to stomach
Plus she's good enough for it, I think.

And she's the top search for the Yahoo! photos celebrity division (If I've read it right )

Though I want Rikako to debut in another group, I think it'll be better for her to be in MM

Which is part of the reason why I think Rikako would work better in her own unit.

The more I think about it, the more I believe the addition of Rikako to Morning Musume wouldn't make sense. Since the members are so focused on taking their top idol status back from AKB, it could be seen as the management's desperate, poor attempt at imitation and "surrendering" in the eyes of some fans and the public.

"We're going to use the same tricks as them by adding a lookalike of their aces! She'll make us popular!".

"The GOLDEN 12th gen member of Morning Musume is an AKB lookalike! Look at us!"

She has great and obvious potential, but it wouldn't necessarily be good to have someone with "baggage" like that in a 17-year-old group like Morning Musume that is in the middle of making a fresh identity again. Too many comparisons would be drawn. I'd rather see her in her own unit where she would be more of a "nice" addition than a statement. She deserves more than being "that girl who looks like Oshima Atsuko", too. If she is to become an ace, she should lead her own unit with her own style.

I'd pretty much forgotten about the whole she looks like an AKB thing she has enough presence and personality especially on stage (whether you like that personality or not) to very quickly be seen as an Idol in her own right and not just a copycat.

Just so you guys know my stance, Im kinda down for anything at this point as long as we dont get a pointless addition

as in the girl ends up being a back girl till her graduation

also there's the possibility that who knows by next year Rikako starts looking Kiko Mizuhara more (hopefully ) or she grows her hair out (and looks as good as Kiko with it )

I think, that if Sasaki Rikako applies for this audition, works hard and passes all the rounds, then she deserves to be in the group over all objections that may be made by fans. Similarities with Oshima and Maeda aside, she's a hard working girl, always a plus in any idol group. Every girl who wants to join Morning Musume must know that there is a possibility that they might be back girls for the rest of their career. But before they (or we) can worry about that, they'd got to pass the auditions first.

I think it is ridiculous that you don't want her to join cause she looks similar to two akb members, I don't think that should be the selling point. Does it mean any girl that looks like an akb member is automatically out regardless of what she brings to the table?
