Check back through the last couple of pages of this thread. It's cancer, they caught it early. He's undergoing treatment and, at least as of March, is unable to speak (though whether this is by choice or condition is unclear).
Between treatments, side-effects from those treatments, and having to communicate solely through written word, he's bound to be slowed down.
