TOKYO —
Former Morning Musume singer Maki Goto, 26, who has announced her upcoming hiatus from show business, took part Sunday in the Dream Morning Musume event, which brought together Morning Musume graduate members at Nakano Sun Plaza.
The 2,200 fans cheered when fellow alumni Mari Yaguchi, 28, introduced Goto, who joined Natsumi Abe, Nozomi Tsuji, 24, and other former Morning Musume singers on stage.
Goto took the occasion to announce that her final live performance will be held on Dec 4, and asked members of Dream Morning Musume to attend.
Goto first announced in June that she would take an indefinite break from show business from the end of this year. Goto explained in an emotional, hand-written fax sent to media outlets and on her homepage that she had been continuing to work since the accidental death of her mother Tokiko in January of this year, but that she was finding it tough.
“The gaping hole in my heart has been open the whole year and has not had time to heal,” she wrote. “Until now, I’ve always been trying to live for someone else, trying to be who other people want me to be. For the first time, I’d like to try being the person I want to be.”
