Hah I just read an article from wired last night about how Sony won E3 and it meant nothing because Microsoft was the one with more progressive policies for the future of an all digital gaming.

bffft :giggle:

I guess the preorder numbers and the thorough trouncing on every poll in many communities scared them to back off after all

Why do people think the future will be all-digital anyway? Regardless of if digital becomes the main distribution method, you can still buy physical books, films and music CDs. I expect it to be the same with games, especially in Japan where digital distribution is not as popular and used games are a pretty big thing.

Beats me, I thought they must be from one of those fabled lands with flawless high speed internet but then again... like you said, Japan says hi.

The fallback from this 180 will be interesting to keep up with the next few weeks...

You can thank the Start button debacle for that.

Oh, did Win 8 end up officially giving back the Start button?
Without a third-party application, I mean. :hehe:

I adapted to the lack of Start button very quickly when I got my new laptop with Windows 8. When I was using Win 7, I pinned programs I open most frequently onto the taskbar, and of course you have your desktop, so I almost never go to Start on a regular basis.

Anyway, there's the whole Start screen that functions as the same thing and you can get to from the same general area (bottom left corner), and you can just start typing whatever you're looking for to get to it.

^^ Yeah in Windows 8.1 it will sort of be back. Actually for now all the restored version seems to do is take you to the Start Screen (i.e. to do the same thing as the Windows charm) which is worse than pointless in my opinion. The real problem with missing a Start Button is no longer being able to look at your work and the menu at the same time, therefore having to completely switch from what you're doing to another screen just to search for stuff.

But even so I'm with esm on this. It's really a non-issue for most people, and for those who have a problem there are plenty of low-cost or free replacements, such as Classic Start Menu (which I use), Stardock's Start8, and many other options.

Quick dummy tech question here. I have been hesitant to upgrade my old PC laptop (which can just barely play 360p youtube videos) because I have heard awful things about every OS that MS has released since XP.

Is there anything that I won't be able to do if I get a new PC and downgrade to XP?

I would tell you Windows 7 isn't terrible (it really isn't), but good luck finding a computer with it.

Spoiler: show
I've got three episodes of Falling Skies on my DVR to watch before I'm totally up to speed, but the season 2 finale made me wanna scream and rip my hair out. (╬ ಠ益ಠ)
Learn from me, children, this will teach you to never get emotionally invested in televison shows. They'll ruin you!
