I'm not trying to justify the girls being boring in front of cameras, but it's true that it wasn't like that at some point and it's true that it might be a result of the girls caring less and less the more they get the lower end of the stick. We can go back to the cha cha SING thread and there were no complains about how boring they were, and again, that didn't happen that long ago.

There are two options: force them to be serious and cool until they nail it, or give them material that they can pull off. And really, Berryz seeing better success and results will most likely improve the morale of the group. Give them promotion, give them a role.

I don't think Maasa's weight is too much of a problem, in concerts I would be inclined to say that her cheers are the loudest, and I see mostly blue glow sticks  It's just that, as stated, when asked not to smile for a serious single, Maasa's and some of the other girls expressions come off as bored or uninterested. They definitely still love what they do, and love their fans.

They just need to take lessons in making love to the camera from Airi.

They're especially good at fuwaing live tbh.

Of course there was a time like that, there was a time like that for every group but that doesn't really matter. Doesn't matter that cha cha SING was a hit either -- that MV was awful too really, though more because of the lack of cuts rather than the girls, who again didn't do too well in their solo shots. That SONG was easy to get into, that's why people didn't complain. The girls weren't much better before the camera in that one than they were in the latest ones.

So you have to serve them what they want before they give a fuck about it? That's not how it works. That's now how showbiz (in Japan at least) works and that's not how things will happen. Either THEY make an effort or they'll continue getting nothing. Berryz have gotten chances; half a year or so ago Chinami was on TV with Momochi and while she did push the "We're only business partners," that's all she did. She didn't leave an impression and to be honest I doubt she'll ever be able to.
The fact that UF gave them Budoukan without no real reason whatsoever, I honestly find both disturbing and hilarious. The lack of fucks they give makes me wanna say that they don't deserve it so soon and it's hilarious because it just shows how spoiled the group is/comes off. They talk about Budoukan for a week or two and then wham they get it. They didn't really have to do anything or try too hard or work their ass off for it. S/mileage has been doing more pushing themselves than Berryz has the past couple of years.

I'm not hating, really not. But their attitude just pisses me off. "If they get better songs they'll do better" or "If they get better PR they'll do better" isn't what matters. They'll get better PR, better MV, better everything once they start giving people (including management) a reason to care.

I truly don't think it's that one-sided. Of course Berryz is the more important factor and of course I agree that they should be doing their best regardless of their situation, but a real effort has to be made behind the cameras as well to put them back on track. Momo was always interesting to watch, but didn't become big until she was strongly pushed by the management, and it worked. C-ute didn't go from Sekaiichi Happy numbers to Kimi Chari numbers just because the girls truly wished it to happen from the bottom of their hearts, it was the combination of a well executed single by their part AND a real promotional effort from the staff.

I don't think that BK can change from within because of the embedded fiefdoms.

That's why I think Captain needs to bring in a middle manager type from the outside.

Why would management put money and effort into a group that doesn't even try hard to begin with?

I'm not saying that Berryz should work hard and management not give a damn. That's not it at all, but if they can't even see the group care about what they're given in the first place, WHY would they give them better quality of whatever? That doesn't make sense. HOWEVER, if they'd see them work their ass off, talk among themselves, perhaps even ask their managers for things, say that they want to do this or that, THAT shows motivation and enthusiasm. Which, later on, would/could end up in management trusting Berryz to pull in more fans and that way they'd be trusted with better quality anything.

Tsunku said something related when he announced their Budoukan. "If you don't make the audience come, it's no good." (Something along those lines) and that pretty much shows that he (and likely management overall) doesn't see them even trying. The management side of it WOULD see them try as they're with them all the time and if not even they can tell, there's no way in hell that the fans will.

We they were giving people a reason to care no one cared. I'm not going to exhaust myself so I can get the short end of the stick.

So guess that's the question. Are they even being treated worse? If so then is someone treating them this way because of their attitudes or are their attitudes a product of the way they're treated.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if the Budokan concert ends up being their graduation concert. They were given all sorts of songs recently, so I doubt it's what they're given.
