GAH if only it was just one day earlier. I'll have to see if I can adjust when I'm going to go visit my mom's cousin by a day, because I really want to go to this. I'm doubly excited about the evening concert, it's way too hot right now and I'd be worried about the girls performing in this heat/humidity, and it'll just be way cooler in general to see them in the evening outside, a real "summery" feel.

The Imasugu "translation" makes me want to throw things. Whoever translated this has absolutely NO idea what they're doing. The lyrics themselves are grammatically incorrect, they don't flow (but they never do so whatever), they miss out "saa"s, and the end product is just a complete mess.

I really really hate how they just translate lines as incomplete phrases, rather than as actual sentences.

For example, the "やりたいことばかり / 一日じゃおさまんないよ" lines are translated as "Plenty of things I want to do / 24 hours a day is not enough". I'd personally go for "I have so many things I want to do / that I can't fit them all into a single day". The official translation isn't inaccurate, it's just messy and... bad. I know they're probably trying to make the translation the same kind of length as the Japanese lyrics, but sorry, English just doesn't work that way. It's a wordy language, especially if you're trying to convey abstract ideas (which Imasugu is mostly comprised of). It's also not even a case of difficult to translate phrases (such as wabi-sabi) -- whoever translated these lyrics is just lazy.

It's been a while since I've been this mad at an official translation. If you're going to do them, PLEASE put some effort into them.

I could be wrong here, but having better translations could also benefit fans who don't speak English as their first language but use the translations instead of the Japanese lyrics. If they're confusing to someone who's fluent in English, they're probably gonna be even more confusing to people who aren't.

Bitching aside, the MV is nice I guess. Definitely my least favourite song of the three, though. Sukatto is probably my favourite, but I think I'll wait until the single is officially released before I finalise anything.

Yesterday I was in the car alone waiting for my mom at the doctor's, so I put on Sukatto at really loud and just... Jammed away.
Next time they come to America, they're singing that song. It's such a great "blast loudly and sing" song. xD

I'm still try'n with it. It's starting to come around a little for me but it's a very slow process.

For the most accurate and best sounding lyric translation I think having two people is vital. One on the Japanese side, and one on the English side. The Japanese side can help decipher the allusions and clear up ambiguity, and talk to the lyric writer to get clarifcation. The English side should have lyric writing or poetry writing experience or practice/interest and change it into more natural and poetic sounding English.

My closest Japanese friend is almost fluent in English and she is a singer/songwriter. All her songs are in English and for the most part they're fine, but she'll have the same issues that I see constantly in these translated lyrics, so she'll have me look over them and I'll "retranslate" it (like Starra did) or come up with other ways to say things that are more "lyrical". Because of the way the Japanese language works and the way the English language works I feel like that's vital. Doing it with only one translator/bi-lingual speaker is passable and I'm sure there are individuals out there who can perfectly do it, but more often than not, we get this kind of result instead.

Do not that they post comments like "The tranlsation is literal might not be perfect" or something. Which they started doing after a bit when they started with subs.
I remember being both upset and wrote UF lengthy stuff on twitter complaining about it. That's waht they made to "make it okay" I guess.

Having that said, I've kinda given up on UF subs. I feel sorry for anyone relying on them.

I'm not fluent in Japanese at all and I can tell those are bad.

Ah, well, a lot of times the UF versions is all people have to go on, I don't recall a whole lot of translating from other people now that they do that.

hey I rely on those subs, its a lot faster. I don't see anybody else doing it this quickly every week, consistently.

I don't want to hear the excuses that people are too busy with "life" to translate it. If they got time to browse the forums and have time to read and complain about translation mistakes, I'd like to see them do it every week for a year so we don't have to "rely" on UF subs. We'll rely on that person every week, no excuses.
