ME:I, an 11-member girl group that will release its debut single "MIRAI" on April 17, served as the cover model for March 2024 in "Cover Model of the Month," an original project of Model Press, Japan's largest entertainment and lifestyle news media for women. This is the first time a girl group has been selected as a cover model for our project.
In celebration of their debut, Model Press has been covering them since "PRODUCE 101 JAPAN THE GIRLS," will begin publishing interviews with them in mid-March, one as a unit and the other as solo.
In the unit interview, the interview was divided into a 4:4:3 split, with questions about the highlights of the songs included in "MIRAI," the progress they have made since their formation, and their dreams for the group.
In the solo interviews, the members who have changed their impression of ME:I the most, the members who have become good friends, their turning point after the formation of the group, and the secret to making their dreams come true were discussed, as well as their personal charm and bond with the members.
In addition, ME:I appeared on "This month's moving cover", a model press video project linked to "This month's cover model". The video will be available on Model Press YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter)
Model Press interview with ME:I Unit Vol.1 - MIU, RAN, KOKONA, SUZU
What are the challenges of living together with 11 other people? We also reveal their first impressions of each other.
What are some of your own points of interest in the title track "Click" that we should pay attention to?
MIU: I have received a part in the last chorus, so please pay attention to it.
RAN: There is a solo part in which I dance in the center, and the part synchronized with the movements of the 10 members is really cool.
KOKONA:My part of the bridge part is a dance in which it looks like I'm is controlling the members.
SUZU: When we were shooting the music video, we took a lot of different shots of my part of the chorus, so I hope you can enjoy it.
- What do you four people have in common?
SUZU: Is there?
RAN: (Turning to the three of us) I (introverted) ?
MIU: I!
RAN: Everyone's MBTI is "I"
I'm not quiet (laughs).
THREE: (laughs).
RAN: But I get the feeling that they are the type of people who are in the background when the bright kids are making noise. But they are not quiet (laughs).
- All four members attracted a lot of attention in the early stage of the audition when the signal song "LEAP HIGH Tomorrow" was released, what was your impression of them when you first met them?
SUZU: Embarrassing.
RAN: Hmmm (laughs).
SUZU: I was with KOKONA when we were practicing before the show started. At that time, she looked quiet next to us even when we were talking a little, and even in the dressing room, she didn't talk and ate her dinner quietly, and I thought "she is really quiet." We had never been on the same team during the audition and had no contact with each other, but now that we are working together, I wonder if there are some differences (laughs).
RAN: (laughs).
SUZU: ...(KOKONA) is pretty goofy. But I always have an image of her as cute and quiet as she was then.
KOKONA: I first met MIU at the airport.
MIU: Oh! Yeah!
KOKONA: I had seen the audition that she was on before, so I thought, "Wow! You're famous," so I immediately sent a message to my family LINE saying "MIU-chan is here" (laughs).
MIU: Embarrassing... (laughs).
KOKONA: I remembered that - (laughs). An Entertainer! It was like that.
MIU: RAN and I hardly saw each other at all during the placement stage; SUZU and RAN seemed to be sitting near each other, but RAN and I seemed to be sitting almost opposite each other. We were in different classes at the beginning, so the time when we met was when RAN moved up to A class for the re-evaluation. Even before the reevaluation, there were many who were predicting who would move up from B class, and RAN was included in that group, and I thought, "She's definitely a good dancer...! I thought."
RAN: Hahaha (laughs).
MIU: And you dance so well, I felt you are a talented dancer.
- What has been the most difficult thing for you since the group formed?
RAN: At the Korean camp, we practiced cover dances before our debut song. At that time, all the members had extended from the audition and had not yet switched over, and I had been involved in various activities before, so I felt that I had to lead the 11 members in terms of dance and proceed in a different way than when I was a trainee. It is difficult because we still don't know how much to support each other and how much to do individually, and we don't know how to find a balance yet, but now I think we are getting better through the preparation of our debut song.
KOKONA: I am having a hard time right now. It will be after we start full-fledged activities, but since there are 11 of us living together and there are so many of us, it is very difficult for the last child to be late for things like bathing (laughs).
- Now, what are your goals as a group?
RAN:We have not had a chance to discuss definite goals with the 11 members yet, but I am sure that all of us would like to be able to perform not only in Japan but also in other countries, and we would like to have more and more opportunities to tour and meet with everyone. I would like to become an artist who is loved by everyone.
- Thank you very much.https://mdpr.jp/interview/detail/4223277
