translation by kurikaesu.haru at H!O

This is a translation of an essay published by Tomi Abe on the site “Hana no E” [Picture of a Flower]. It is a site dedicated to publishing essays/articles on movies, music, culture, etc that are not necessarily trendy, popular, or well-known. Their essays make it a point to analyze without regard to popular opinion.

This essay, published under the site's culture section, discusses the Morning Musume of 2007-2011 and raises a lot of interesting points. I became a fan of MM because of this particular lineup and reading this, I felt both a sense of affirmation and an incredible sadness. I wanted to translate and share this because it is probably the most thought-out essay/review/article on MM I have ever read (granted, I'm a relatively new fan and haven't read many). This is unlike the typical entertainment articles that I usually see about MM. (It also resonated with me because his thoughts/feelings about MM are so similar to mine that I was stunned when I first read it, particularly the part about Nanchatte Ren'ai, the song that made me a fan.)

For the most part, the essay has a formal tone to it, so the translation reflects that. There are several parts that are a little unclear or awkward to me, so if anyone has any corrections, I very much welcome them. :) Notes in parentheses are the original author's own. Those in brackets are my clarifications.

The original essay is split into two parts, which I kept. Links to original essay are provided below.

It's a long read, but a good one. :)

Enjoy~

awesome article. :] thanks for posting!

also, the motion capture was cute, but the technology can't keep up with the faster/more subtle parts. x3 it makes me hope that they have/will have an IDOLM@STER game where you can set the dances by motion instead of by commands, though!

^ You must be mistaken. She's clearly a diehard Android fan. Oceania has always been at war with Eurasia.
