^ I'd love to become truly proficient at Japanese, but it's so hard to find the time and energy to do it, especially when it has to compete with so many other interests in my limited free time. Progressing beyond what language pedagogy calls the "learning plateau" has been a real challenge.

I got to that plateau pretty quickly, though. I never took any actual classes, but I started working through some textbooks etc. on my own in preparation for my first trip to Japan, and less than a year and a half later I was speaking admittedly simple but grammatically correct Japanese in my dreams.

Yeah, I'm hoping I don't have to resort to that. I'm hoping it's some random person's script just having a temporary seizure, and not a permanent state of affairs. As you can see here the month's not even a third over and we're already getting multiple times the amount of hits we get in a typical month. But a few other amateur sites I frequent have had to go the Cloudflare route so it may be inevitable.

Best you can do is temporarily shut down the board for maintenance or something.

I just finished a little tweaking in the backend based on some suggestions, hopefully it'll help.

The fact that things are not literally broken right now after my stumbling about is a positive sign.

It seems to be working, but it comes back every now and then. I'm just a bit hesitant to post.

Yeah, I've taken to Ctrl-A/Copying when I have anything substantial to post. There's still a couple more things I can attempt if this problem doesn't clear up on its own but there's a pretty steep learning curve involved so I have to really set aside some time for it. My apologies.

First time I've seen problems with this site since I started posting Q&As here a year or two back. Seeing you talk about Cloudflare I wonder if it's the same problem H!O's been having going down randomly? Of course Haku there isn't motivated to fix it at all, or outsource it to someone who can...
