So I got to thinking…

I know this forum has dozens of lurkers, and given the nature of what we do here, I assume at least some of you are not native speakers of English.

I also know my style of humor, as expressed in the little teases at the tops of my posts, might not be funny or even make sense to people who are not native speakers of English. It's both cryptic and ironic, which is risky even under good conditions.

Heck, much of the time I'm not even trying to be funny. ("Well good, because you aren't!") I'm just trying to pique your interest so that you'll watch the video or click the link, without having me explain the entire thing to you in advance.

The point of all this is that I want everyone here — both regulars and lurkers — to understand that my little teases are never actually mean-spirited, regardless of how they might read literally. And I'm certainly not trying to insult anyone's favorite group / member / song / whatever.

Even the times when I suggested the creation of a "I Hate Your Favorite Member" thread, it was to warn that the discussion was going in that direction, not to encourage it. (And it always saddened me that some people missed the point and wanted to do it for real. Go back to MM-BBS. That's where I got the idea.)

Anyhow, that's it. I'm just an old fart who wants to make sure he's not misunderstood, before it's too late.

I know a few people on Twitter who are trying to find a new home to discuss Hello!Project. Aside from Discord and Facebook Groups. We really only have this place, Hello-Online and MM-BBS.

I wish lurkers would participate more in conversations. On any forum they visit. It’s nice to have new blood joining conversations and to have a different perspective on idols they may like or songs they enjoy or maybe don’t enjoy. That’s the nature of a forum, to have discussions and grow and learn and to see all sides of something.

Twitter is nice for quick information but I came to the forums for my soapbox.

Honestly, I hate Twitter as a platform for discussing things in-depth. It is nice when you just want to shitpost and tweet about wanting to see your favourite characters get railed, but for more serious discussions, there's no room for nuance. It also promotes hostility towards others who have different opinions to you, and it's really easy to end up in parts of communities that make you uncomfortable.

I prefer forums because you actively have to agree to want to talk about the subject matter at hand (say, Hello! Project or anime or whatever) when you sign up. You also have to choose to go into each thread, and discussions aren't just shoved in your face for you to give a knee-jerk reaction to. If there are certain things you want to avoid, it's easier to do so on forums. Twitter also has no spoiler options and no way of hiding discussions other than adding generic trigger/content warnings... for people to manually mute. But the mute function doesn't always work.

Forums also let you see what people thought of something when it was current/new, like a release or a group announcement, and it's easier to dig up older information. Twitter is a constant feed of streams of conciousness, so things get buried pretty much immediately.

I want to start posting more here again, but I feel like I'm too annoying, and at least on Twitter it's easy to block me, lol. Then again, I talk about 3-5 different fandoms, so if you're following me for just one of them, uh. Oops.

You're not annoying, Starra. Well maybe you are in real life, idk, but on jplop you're delightful. (On Twitter I'm pretty sure being "delightful" is against the terms of service, so)

Tbh I just think I tweet too much lol, mostly about different things.

Currently I tweet about: Attack on Titan (mainly Zeke), my H!P database/website and H!P in general, this dude from the new Pokemon anime (he was made for me, I love him), whatever manga I'm reading, my cats and sometimes my health (but I try to minimise that stuff).

At least I have a place to shout into the void, which is also something Twitter's good for. Most of the time I don't have much to say about H!P beyond basic comments, and I can stick to Twitter for that, but I might slither in here every so often when I have something to yell about that's beyond Twitter's capacity lol.

:hehe: Another peanut tale. How I was fooled by a crow.
Spoiler: show
Normally I put the peanuts on the fence after it gets dark outside but last evening I did it at 7 PM. It was still light outside but I did not hear any crows around. It was so quiet Big Foot could have been around. So, I put four peanuts on the fence for my squirrel friend and went into the house. About 15 minutes later I checked on the peanuts to see how they were doing. Two peanuts were gone and it was still quiet as hell. I figured the squirrel since it was his MO. But I wanted to see for myself. I positioned myself next to a window and watched. After about 10 minutes, a crow quietly glided to the fence, picked up the two remaining peanuts in its beak and then glided up to the roof of the apartment building. Two peanuts are about the limit a crow can hold in its beak. I was so impressed with this crow that I was not even pissed. Crows are so clever. Back to the drawing board again.

Been a minute since I've logged in but we finally got a date of 5/30 for cable/net installation (and I finally remembered my password again), so I'm hoping to get back to my normal daily visits soon - and for now at least visits on days when my brother-in-law doesn't need his computer.

I'm damn well going to find a way to watch the Kenshuusei test. I've already missed way too much, I'm not missing that too. Plus I still need a bit of an intro to the newest girls.

The self-cleaning mechanisms of the nasal passages are amazing, truly. But sometimes you need a good, hard blowing of the nose.

I've had something stuck deep inside for a while, it finally came out today, and now my nose feels downright cavernous. Like all the way up to behind my right eye.

:x a real pain in rear
I do not even like sitting on a park swing let alone getting on the roof of my house even though it is a flat roof. I do not like heights. Gravity. The last time I was up on the roof before the last big rain checking the drains, I noticed a hole poked into the side of the foam roof. It looked like someone poked a pencil through the wall for about 3 inches deep. Since the weather has been good, I went back up to repair that hole and surprise surprise there were more holes. It turns out my crow friends like to sharpen their beaks on my roof. The roofing company said no big deal and told me how to repair.

Omg. I love birds, but also please leave our houses alone.
Glad it's an easy fix! Having to confront reasonable fears is a pain, tho. :/
