The Stare DownHave you ever had a stare down with a crow? Twice I caught a crow eyeballing the fence peanuts from the garage roof. The first time I noticed him I just watched to see what he was up to. The crow knew I was watching it and after a while flew away nonchalantly. In between the rain breaks while I was emptying my rain buckets in the morning, I noticed the crow was back and he was more determined to get the fence peanuts this time. He is a tough guy. It was a stare-off! I was the winner after a few minutes of staring at each other when he gave up and flew away.
The Smart CrowIt all makes sense now. I had noticed strange peanut activity on the fence. I always put out four peanuts on the fence for the squirrel. A few times I noticed not all the peanuts were taken. Once three were gone and one left. I figured the squirrel saved one for a midnight snack.
Another time two were taken and two were left. I am now sure the crow was the culprit but did not want to make it obvious by taking all the nuts so he left some for the squirrel. That is my theory.
The crows are around in the morning so now I put out the peanuts around 3 to 4 PM. They are all gone by 7 PM. The squirrel takes them all at once.
