Regarding your issue Starra, I seem to recall a typeface in which each glyph, below its usual shape, had a tiny representation of its numeric character code. So it would look something like this when you typed:

愛の園~Touch
0x611B 0x306E 0x5712 0xFF5E 0x54 0x6F 0x75 0x63 0x68

But now I can't find it anywhere...was I dreaming the whole time?

Huh. I don't think I'd get it to work in my database, but that's interesting. I don't know anything about Unicode, so I have no idea if you're right or not, although from what I briefly read on Wikipedia it seems like it's undergone a lot of redesigns and updates, so maybe it was possible at some point but isn't anymore? I am admittedly very ignorant when it comes to this side of technical stuff, lol.

I think that the general availability of Unicode and its existence as a de facto standard (along with TrueType/OpenType for printing and screen display) has taken care of at least 85% of the font problems that used to be pretty much everywhere - and most of the remaining problems usually come down to "Find a font that will work and download it." That's so much better than the days of third-party utilities, incompatible/nonstandard formats, and iffy system settings!

In my experience, the remaining 15% involve old Windows utilities and their dependence on ANSI. For example, building HTML Help files for non-European languages.

(why the hell am I still building HTML Help files? because that's what you need to include documentation with with MMC snap-ins.)

I've managed to be woken up by this damn DJ Bouncin' Beats toy commercial so many times now that I can't even escape "show us your moves!!" in my dreams.

Since the election is over, my YouTube ad rotation is back to Grammarly, Vrbo, and solar panels. Lots of solar panels. Lots of Chinese-made solar panels trying to suck up those sweet, sweet tax credits.

Good to know I'm not the only one slammed with Vrbo ads. I'd happily give up a toe or something to never see one again.

You can block specific ads by clicking the "Info" symbol (ⓘ) in the bottom left corner of the video.

But the worst offenders either make their ads unblockable or produce several different versions of the same ad.

Is it just me or has Chrome gotten more aggressive lately in its address bar autocomplete? Like for instance, if I type in "expect the" in the address bar and press enter, I would normally expect the browser to execute a google search on that exact phrase "expect the." But in fact it searches on "expect the unexpected," because it "helpfully" autocompleted the word "unexpected" as I was typing. As far as I know I've never looked up that particular phrase so it's not like it's using my past preferences. But now I feel like I have to double check every time I type into the address bar.

I've noticed it, too!! Super obnoxious.
To make it go away, turn off "Autocomplete with trending searches".

^ I looked for it and this is what I found…

Settings > You and Google > Sync and Google services > Autocomplete searches and URLs

I didn't notice it before because Chrome isn't my primary browser. I use it only as a client/sandbox for Google services. But now that Zunu has pointed it out, it's awful. Even worse than Siri Suggestions on Mac and iPhone.
