First CBS shoves the new "Stark Trek" behind it's own streaming service, now MGM is creating a streaming service strictly for new "Stargate" material.

No. I love these two franchises, but no.

Old people got money. Decades of overpriced SF related DVDs not to mention stuff like Madonna and Eagles etc. concerts have convinced them of that, so much so that they would rather keep milking the shit out of baby boomers than create a sustainable franchise for the future. It's ironic that for all their future-sciency aura, the marketing of these shows is stuck in the past.

The reaction so far to Star Trek: Discovery has been awful. Star Trek fans simply don't want yet another canon-breaking reboot. The paywall is mostly irrelevant to them. They'd rather have Axanar.

Also, CBS/Paramount is not targeting baby boomers (born 1946-1964) with this. Sure, Baby Boomers are the target audience for most of CBS's programming, but not for this. This is for Gen X (born 1964-1982), which grew up with Star Trek as a mature franchise. And that's where the paywall matters, because Gen Xers are not going to subscribe to any service for a single series.

This is the first I've head of new Stargate.

I love how Jon was immediately furious at the reunion with Theon, and then the people around him were probably like, huh? It's like how Sansa and Arya told each other, "It's a long story."

Last week when I was watching the episode with someone who had only seen like three episodes of the series, I was like... yeah, I can't explain to you the background to any of these scenes.

The pathos of Jaime is that everything he does, including this latest escapade, is driven by one thing, his love for his sister over all else. And for that reason, one thing is certain -- it's not possible for him to have a happy ending to his story. He's accursed no matter what he does. The best he can hope for is a noble ending, perhaps choosing to save Tyrion over Cersei and live or die with a broken heart. And the same for Cersei, the best she can probably hope for is to be slain by her brother. I mean in theory GRRM and/or Weiss/Benioff could just ignore the entire history of tragic drama and allow Jaime and Cersei to skip off into the sunset, but that's not really in keeping with what we have seen in this world. Deaths may seem arbitrary but they usually do have a moral or at least dramatically solid underpinning. Robb done in by arrogance. Catlyn paid the price for her irrational (and turns out completely misplaced) hatred of Jon Snow. Ygritte because Jon broke his vows. Stannis because he killed his daughter. Myrcella cursed by her parentage. Sand snakes, sweet poetic justice.
