From what we can see in concerts and stuff, all of them seem to be hardworking. Erina, Riho, Masaki and Ayumi come off as more so to me, but that's only based on stage presence and their past fall tour. Haruna is obviously hardworking considering the way she's improved with singing and dancing. Kanon, Haruna and Mizuki have all improved in various fields as well.
There is no way he holds the same standards for all of them though, and we have no idea of what he means with "slacking off" anyway. It hardly means "not doing rehearsal properly" but it's most likely a question about their mentality or motivation to improve and reach higher than they have.
Riho is the center and she could as well just settle with that and be comfortable where she is without making much of an effort anymore, which probably would be slacking off. She hardly seems to be the type but just an example.

Considering that we only see 50% of these girls (maybe even less) it's more likely he's talking about the things that go on backstage that doesn't end up on the DVD magazines. If you ask me, I wouldn't say any of them are slacking off either, but... what I have to judge by is concerts, radio shows and blogs that are all watched by managers and staff wanting to promote these girls as good as possible. So.. flaws and faults and bad attitude (if there is any) wouldn't really be shown to the fans anyway.

I singled out Masaki becoz she had been making mistakes on the MVs and I heard she also make mistakes on stage. She works hard, no doubt about it, but she should pay more attention too.
I like Masaki, I just don't want to see her get into trouble. I also assume that was why Zukki stopped goofing around. Its either that or Zukki just grew out of the goofy stage. People change, seen it happen before.

Masaki does make mistakes. Though for that dance shot, I really blame the director/Tsunku for not editing it better. Or simply not going for another shot. People do mistakes in dances all the time, it's the director/Producer's fault for making it end up in the final product, imo.

Kanon I think hardly stopped being spontaneous because of that. Getting juniors and growing up, and knowing that 9th gen are suddenly almost on the top of Morning Musume, surely must have had something to do with it. Aika graduating too, surely.

I think Zukki is going the way of Mako, but wont have the 6 years Mako had, I can see her leaving really soon. Which sucks. She was my favorite just below Risa when she first joined. Now... meh. Wouldn't notice if she was gone.

Sohee, I agree; approaching it from a different angle, I don't think that making mistakes in the dance routines is a big issue. I'd imagine that UF is more concerned that the girls show a commitment to the organization and to their role as moneymakers. The idol landscape has changed quite a bit since the lazy days of the early 2000s when H!P was so preeminent it could have girls like Makoto and iunno Miuna who were just kinda along for the ride but not really cultivating a fanbase. Now, with competition not just from AKB up above, but with firms like Stardust and LesPros nipping at their heels, H!P has to stay focused or risk losing the standing it's currently got. Tsunku can't for a moment say, "OK, the girls are popular again, we can take it easy." And neither should they feel that way. When he says, "They're might be a lot of them," it's necessarily that any of them specifically are slacking off, it's that (- even if some of them are - )he's letting them know, in a joking manner, that they are all at risk. There's nobody who's got a lock. They have to show some drive and initiative in helping to secure new fans. Getting fans to spend money on CDs and tickets and merch. That's the bottom line.

I am really curious to why people keep saying they can see Kanon leave soon. I mean, for a while there she looked kinda out of it but that was last summer and she's been looking great the past few months. Because she doesn't get lines in songs or simply because she's changed from the way she was when she joined?

Saying she lacks in performance (MCs, singing, etc) is fair to a certain degree, I think. As she doesn't really get the chance to do much at all. When 9th gen just joined she did as she was the youngest and all but... then 10th gen joined and she kinda lost that. They (management) hasn't really made an effort to give her anywhere to show off either. Which is why I keep hoping that they'll give her the chance to host H!P Station at least.

How does Koha come across as anti-work? She worked her butts off for Kirarin and tend Oha-Star. After Momusu she took certification for something related to nutrition or something, can remember exactly but it has to do with food. And then she became a model for a high-end magazine. I also don't see how Koha can be considered spoiled. If you consider Koha having her own agenda as being spoiled then, maybe yes


Personally I see Zukki as a trooper. She won't quit until the management boots her out. Otherwise she'll just keep on trooping. I kinda see Maasa in Zukki.
