Looks like some combination of more makeup on her upper eyelids (eyeliner and some grey eyeshadow?), and a darker lipstick.
I agree, she's much cuter with the youthful, lighter tones.

Bonus: They've apparently installed photovoltaic panels on the set to recapture energy from the studio lighting. I don't know if that's cost effective, but it's certainly an interesting idea.
