Tamura Meimi will be in an NHK Drama special called "Idol", airs August 11th @ 7:30pm~8:43pm Golden Time. The story is about Japan's first Idol, Matsuko Ashita played by Kotone Furukawa. Tamura will play Koyanagi Nanako, Matsuko's group mate.

Synopsis

In 1936, Toshiko Onodera (Kotone Furukawa) moves to Tokyo from Iwate and auditions for the Moulin Rouge theater in Shinjuku to become a star. On the spot, she catches the eye of manager and producer Sasaki Chisato (Shiina Kippei) and the theater's signature actress Takanawa Yoshiko (Manaki Reika), and begins working at the theater as a member of the troupe.
Toshiko continued her life as an underling, sparing no time for sleep and spending most of her day rehearsing and performing on stage. One thing led to another, and Toshiko ended up singing and dancing in the center of the stage.
Six months later, Toshiko changed her name to "Matsuko Ashita" and formed a young group with her colleague Koyanagi Nanako (Tamura Meimi) and others, which became overwhelmingly popular. The theater was packed with fans, and the place was filled to capacity every day. Matsuko became the center of the group and became the "idol" of each and every fan.
Meanwhile, Japan was at war, and the effects of the war reached the Moulin Rouge. The red windmill that had been the symbol of the theater was removed, and the signature actor Shotaro Yamaguchi (Ikuzaburo Yamazaki) left for war.

"Idols" have always excited and thrilled young people.
From the early Showa period to the end of the war, the Moulin Rouge Shinjuku theater continued to operate without a single day off in wartime Japan. It was also a theater where one could go to meet idols.
Matsuko Ashita grew up together with her fans and became the absolute ace of the theater.
Even as Japan went to war, she continued to sing and dance on stage, answering the cheers of her fans with a smile...

The theme of this program is "Entertainment in Wartime." It is both a drama depicting the coming-of-age of an idol named Matsuko Ashita , and a music stage show that lavishly incorporates singing and dancing in the theater into the story. It is an original work based on characters and theaters that existed at the time.

Tamura Meimi (Koyanagi Nanako)
She joined Moulin Rouge at the same time as Matsuko, and they grew up together and competed with each other, becoming best friends and good rivals. They eventually become idols and support the theater in its heyday.

Through this work, I was able to experience the history of Japanese idol culture, and I myself have become more captivated than ever by its depth and charm. New performers announced : "Tsubaki Factory" & "BEYOOOOONDS"

Moulin Rouge Shinjuku has made a major change in its policy from "erotic" to "kawaii," which had been the mainstay of the theater. At the center of this change were Matsuko Ashita and Koyanagi Nanako, and a group of young dancers. These young dancers are played by Hello! Project idol groups Tsubaki Factory and BEYOOOOONDS. Nine members from the two groups participated in this drama.

Together with Matsuko Ashita and Koyanagi Nanako, they will charm the fans who came to the theater with their cute songs and sharp dances as one group.

We received comments from the members on their performance.

Yamagishi Riko
I think this drama makes us think about the meaning of "idol" for people in the chaos of wartime. I sang and danced with the thought that the stage should be the best stage for the students to see the performance before going off to war, so that they could enjoy the performance.

Tanimoto Ami
I am very happy to have been involved in this wonderful production! It was the first time for me to be given a role in a drama and I felt the joy of acting, and I was able to watch and learn from my co-stars' performances up close, which was a truly valuable experience and I spent a very happy time with them.

Asakura Kiki
Moulin Rouge Shinjuku is proud to present Japan's first idol. Along with the glamorous show, I could also feel the background of the times, and during the filming, I felt like I was back in wartime Japan. It was fun to see how the makeup and fashion of the same idol naturally changed to reflect the style of the time.

Akiyama Mao
It was very precious that I was able to experience the drama that I wanted to experience in my life, and every day was an exciting time. I hope that the drama will convey a different view and charm from the current era. I hope that many people will be able to see it.

Nishida Shiori
When I was asked to appear in this drama, I learned about idols during wartime. I was inspired by the determination and strength of the idols who, despite the hardships they endured, kept smiling in front of their fans and encouraged them during the filming.

Eguchi Saya
I am very honored to have been cast in this drama while I am still active as an idol and to have played an idol from a different era. I learned that idols in any era are wonderful beings who can influence someone, and I was able to feel the appeal of idols again.

Maeda Kokoro
It was very exciting and cool to see how everyone was passionately exchanging their opinions while creating the drama, and I learned a lot from it. Once again, I felt that being an idol is a wonderful job. I am happy to have been able to participate in this production!

Yamazaki Yuhane
My hair and makeup were different from usual, and the sets in the drama were all new to me, so every day was fresh and new! I am usually active as an idol, so I am very happy to be involved in this production!

Satoyoshi Utano
I have always loved idols since I was a little girl, and now that I am an idol, I am so happy to be able to perform in this drama that depicts the beginning of idols! I put my heart and soul into my performance, paying respect to the great idol seniors.

OCHA NORMA Kubota Nanami shares a story about her unique relationship with her family, specifically her dad and her brother. Since Nanami lives in Chiba, she is very close to Disneyland and would visit often. Her dad would meet up with the family at Disney a little later, but to get there, he scootered (kickboard in Japan) all the way to Disney. Her dad runs a marathon all the way to Sky Tree sometimes. She doesn't know her dad's age. Nanami and her brother used to be close as kids, but just they run away from each other and don't talk much when they got older. They don't hate each other though. Her brother does get her birthday presents.
