Man, I like Berryz, I do, BUUTTT sometimes it feels like they are the spoiled child of H!P. They get everything thrown at them for doing so very little.

Lets be real here, they haven't done very much to earn this sudden surge of... whatever is happening right now.

(don't come at me saying I dislike Berryz either, cuz Risako and Miya are goddess's thank you very much)

Only the difference is that MM is being talked about as doing a come back because their sales show it. They didn't get a sudden invitation to Music Station just because suddenly "they're coming back" -- they got it because their sales improved, because they went around on their own and handed out flyers in 2012, worked hard and little by little got more popular and known a lot thanks to Dentsu but not only because of it. The fans (sales) and the girls worked hard as hell, too.

Berryz may have stuck around for 10 years and they have done really well and all, no doubt, but nothing stands out from their activities or results this past year compared to the year before.
If it is the fact that they've been together for 10 years that brings them this attention, that kind of sucks. Not because of their songs or their abilities, but the fact that they just did the same thing for 10 years straight brings them "undeserved" attention? Not saying that I don't want them to succeed, I really do, but I sure as hell don't want them to get special treatment because they were handpicked to debut earlier than Cute and then stuck to it for 10 years. If that's how it is, S/mileage doesn't have to work extra hard or anything -- as long as they stay together for 10 years they'll get special treatment too? Not the way I want things to go down.

Having that said, as long as they show some result and step up in their game after all of this it's fine. Goes for both the girls and the management for Berryz. But if there's no change and they just do 2013 all over again it really just goes to show how they let Dentsu do their stuff and have no intention to change in any other way.
And if they do change - because of their 10th year (which everything kinda points to) - it's kinda lame they didn't get to it earlier but hey, better late than never I guess. I've been waiting for it for over a year or two so, it's very welcome.

They accepted to wear the WANT!, Motto Zutto, Sayonara Usotsuki and Otona na no yo outfits. Is that not enough sacrifice!?

I'm always so curious about what people mean when they say things like this. What haven't they done? Or maybe more realistically what have other groups done that wasn't GIVEN to them? Y'all make it seem like everyone else in H!P are go getters doing things on their own and making success happen for themselves. That's just not the case.

Also I don't recall anyone questioning the good fortune of C-ute getting 30 PVs.

I think being on Music Fair MIGHT help their sales, and make it so they will have more succesful singles in the future. But seriously, you act like other H!P groups don't get acknowledged for their great sales and such. Every H!P group gets attention, and I guess Music Fair is Berryz's way. And in my opinion, Morning Musume., Juice=Juice and C-ute get way more promotion than them . The posters, TV appearances, big lives (Well, for Morning Musume and C-ute.). But no, when Berryz gets one moment of attention, everything is weird and they don't really deserve it, but hey, it's whatever.

And yeah, Morning Musume. did have that comeback, going from 40k to 100k and beyond. C-ute started selling in 50-60k. Juice=Juice started off with a brilliant debut, selling over 40k on all three of their singles so far. But what helped them do that? Promotion. And this is basically promotion for Berryz. UFP is basically trying all they can to get Berryz and S/mileage to the level that the other three groups are at, even if it does include "undeserved" promotion.

Let's be real guys: All of the H!P groups works hard at what they do to entertain us. And quite frankly, I really don't think that a single's sales should tell us what groups deserve. I think the group's hardwork and dedication should tell us what they deserve, such as their 2013 Budokan and the rumored arena tour.

Yeah let's also preface this by saying while I'm far from the biggest Berryz fan around, I do not in any way resent their recent surge of exposure.

Seriously though wow at the scale of the surge...
-M-net Countdown 2014
-TV Tokyo Festival
-MTV VMAJ 2014
-MUSIC FAIR
All of these are not minor shows, usually to have a H!P group invited to one of them would be a pretty big deal in itself but all of them? In the same year?
And yeah of course they've always worked hard in their own way but as Sohee said in the general's public eye they don't have any recent outstanding achievement that would warrant an uptick in interest in such a grand scale like this.

I previously thought it was nice of the management to finally give Berryz some real push for the 10th year anniversary but this just makes me wonder...

I think it's UFP just trying to find a way of pushing Berryz, now that their 10th anniversary is up. I mean, yeah, I would have been better if UFP had started this a while ago, but it's never too late. Kind of how S/mileage's newest single is getting tons of promotion too, better than the promotion they used to get. But I guess it's because of their Budokan in July.

I guess 2014 is going to be a new year for H!P, in terms of sales and promo.

I honestly haven't been paying a lot of attention to H!P lately, but isn't Momoko still a rather popular H!P member? Well, Berryz Koubou is the only group featuring her since Buono! is dead. I'd say that's enough to try to push Berryz somewhat at least

C-ute's 30 PVs was just youtube fodder and wasn't really so much good fortune as "Pay the editors extra" and they got lucky it got attention.

When you look at things like what randompasserby rattled off above, there is this feeling of "It should be <other H!P group>" really. Let's look at the list.

-M-net Countdown 2014 - Should be Morning Musume, it's a much better representation of Idol popularity, or even H!P popularity.
-TV Tokyo Festival
-MTV VMAJ 2014 - Should be C-ute. The image of C-ute is more in line with the image MTV wants (Cool, young, sexy, hip, etc)
-MUSIC FAIR - Should be Morning Musume. Maybe even Juice=Juice.

When Berryz gets invited to big events, I'm happy and all - I like Berryz and I buy Berryz goods and whatever - but there's always the question "How? Why?"

And many moons there was an argument on these forums on whether or not Berryz worked as hard as the other groups (Which was eventually admitted by Captain that they didn't in a round about way) but I doubt I can have an unbiased argument with someone with Berryz right in their username <,<

Because if we're being realer than real, Berryz does not have the fanbase for an arena tour and Berryz getting an Arena tour before Colorful Era, 100K seller Morning Musume is gonna make a LOT OF PEOPLE go "How the hell?" Come on now.

I agree with the point about them trying to push Berryz.

We often complain about Berryz getting shitty promotion and all, and when they're being pushed people wonder what the girls have done to "earn" the push.

You can't just keep letting the less popular group get even less popular.
