Just had a power outage. Remember to save energy.

Our neighborhood had a scheduled outage from around 10:00 PM Monday to 5:30 AM on Tuesday. Nobody in my family keeps sane hours, so I bought a bunch of battery-powered lights and no-cook (or at least boiling-water-only) food. I had my phone for Internet access, which is OK, but I still find it cramped, and with a lot of app versions of major sites, the options (including things like text formatting) are pretty limited.

But duh, I shouldn't complain - it was a scheduled outage (as opposed to a disaster, war, or rural poverty), and the actual level of inconvenience for very minor.

I've been lucky. When I've had power outages, they've only lasted for a few hours at most. But I have friends who have had their power out for days.

A friend of mine in San Francisco is on a fan forum for a certain Chinese actor. She once mentioned the Bay Area's "rolling blackouts" on the forum, and a member from Singapore responded that they'd "never allow that in Singapore".

My neighborhood has gone out for around 18+ hours twice. The power to neighborhood is supplied by one line, which runs along Arrow Highway (a high-traffic business street), and both times, someone was driving at an unsafe high speed, at night around Xmas/New Year's, and probably boozed up. The second time, the car took out about ten feet of the pole, and left the rest of it hanging by the wires.
So far, we've been able to escape rolling blackouts, but that's probably just dumb luck.

Hooo boy yeah I'm a bit fearful every time I enter the admin panel that I'll crash the site by making a wrong move when changing something.
