Not sure where to put this — it's DMM performing their "LOVE Machine / Renai Revolution 21" medley (again), but the current MM is there as well, so… *shrug*

It's almost as if there is a master plan. :fear:
And that twist would be...?

Kanon is so hilariously amazingly.

The performance... eh. That's just a bit too bad. But I don't think UF had a say in this, it was probably all Fuji TV's doing.
But at least Reina got a line and they were at least in the front row at the end.

I'll let Sohee explain it, because if I mistranslate it or otherwise don't understand it correctly, then I'll get another nasty look.

But from what I do understand, Kanyon is positioning herself as the coldly calculating super-ego of H!P's ichiban kawaii trio (with Sayu as the ego and Momoko as the id).

And people still wonder why some of us think the existence and heavy promotion of DMM is unfair to the current MM.

I'm not quite sure of what twist you mean, but. What Kanon said in that video was that she's Sayumi's and Momoko's spare as she can go to TV whenever they can't. So she wants them to be sick and busy more often so UF puts Kanon there instead.
And when that model was all "You're not THAT CUTE!" Kanon went on explaining "No, no, I think I'm cute and that's all I say, I don't mean to tell you what to think." and Jun (model) was sort of stunned and couldn't say anything but "You're pretty strong huh."

Will this be a new sub-unit "Ichiban Kawaii"?

If you understand ego, super-ego, and id, then you should understand what I mean. If you don't, then…

Whether by accident or by design, Sayu, Momoko, and now Kanon are promoting themselves as talents using essentially the same gag. It has become self-referential and a defining characteristic of H!P idols, as far as the audiences of those shows are concerned. (The long-term wisdom of that is open to debate, but whatever.) The gag would quickly get old, however, if they all played it the same way, so they're each playing a different aspect of it.

Sayu is the original, the natural, because she is arguably the most attractive by traditional Japanese standards and regardless of what may slip from her poison tongue, in the end she generally seems sweet and sincere. She's the ideal, the ego.

Momoko is the parody, the comic relief, because she has a quirky, non-traditional image and she's willing to ingratiate herself and let herself be abused for laughs. She's the dark impulse, the id.

And Kanon is the analyzer, the schemer, who explains the gag for anyone who still doesn't get it, openly exploits it for her own benefit, and while exploiting it adds another level to it. She's the impulse control, the super-ego.

Now, resop2 will explain it all again, but in terms of professional wrestling archetypes. ;)

Since Celedam already posted the Love Machine performance in this thread here's a couple more from Up Front artists, Ai wa Katsu and Odoru Ponpokorin. Too bad about the Love Machine disaster but it was made up for by Chisato Moritaka being there. She still looks fantastic. Now if only someone can upload her performance with Maki Watase from the same show.
