Today is "Seijin no Hi" Coming of Age day (The 2nd Monday of January).

With the adult age lowered to 18 years old, we have an astounding amount of H!P members celebrating new adulthood (Members who turned 18, 19 or 20 years old after they implemented the change in April of last year). But, only the 20 year olds can attend the coming-of-age ceremony. Congrats to all of them!

17 year olds who turn 18 this year will be "new adults" next time.

"Coming-of-Age Ceremony" is now an event for 20-year-olds only.

Each municipality has held its own Coming of Age Ceremony on this day.

However, the definition of adulthood has changed, and this has affected the coming-of-age ceremony as well.

Many municipalities have changed the name of their ceremonies to "Nijuusai no Tsudoi" (gathering of 20 year-olds) and other events for those who have turned 20 years old.

For example, the "Nijyusai no Tsudoi" event to be held on January 9, 2023 in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward is open to residents of Chiyoda Ward who were born between April 2, 2002 and April 1, 2003.

In other words, 18 and 19 year olds are not eligible for this year's coming-of-age ceremony, even though they are "new adults."
