Oh yes, those sales are delicious.

I hope with this single selling so much Tsunku will continue hs trend of better line distribution. These songs were both pretty good for it.

There are a few things I think are contributing to the high sales:

1) Quality songs. Tsunku has been creating singles that are much more current.

2) Complex dance routines. The dance PV's have been getting tons of views and many people have been complementing Morning Musume on their dances.

3) Multiple B-sides. The shuffle B-sides has given people reasons to buy multiple editions of the single as well as generates interest in the other girls and the group as a whole.

4) Handshake events and overall better promotion.

5) And most of all having fresh faces. The new girls are all full of potential and the group feels almost like a new group entirely. Unfortunately even with the new songs and great promotion I think the platinum era still wouldn't sell as well as our new Morning Musume is.

Also I agree that the line distribution has been getting much better and had they just had Riho dominate everything the way Aichan and Reina did then alot of the fans would have begun feeling frustrated. I'm glad Tsunku is giving the other girls more lines and pushing different girls in different singles. Masaki got a bit of a push from One two three on. Mizuki was pushed in Help Me! Haruna got a push in brainstorming and Ayumi had a push in Kimi Sae a little as well. I hope Haruka gets her time to shine soon.

I really don't know. If they would have promoted Platinum era right and created more copies they would have sold more either way, which could have opened up a lot of possibilities. If they would have been given the opportunity to do handshake events like the lineup now, they would have been exposed to more people and that would have resulted in more potential new fans.
Then of course the lack of new faces and updating during platinum era surely wasn't that good, but there's no way to say that the public wouldn't have enjoyed them more if they would have seen them. As it didn't happen we have no way of knowing. Junjun was amazing at variety, they really should have pushed her more for TV.

I think I remember hearing that a lot of casual fans found the girls of the platinum era boring (with the exception of Sayumi). I think having young new girls for fans to get to know and watch grow is really helping build up the fan base. I'm sure with more promotion and better songs the platinum era would have sold better, but I don't think it would have been 100k + like it is now.

I haven't heard that, but I have heard fans speculate that the public found them boring because they were too comfortable with each other. I see the logic in that, though I'd definitely say their DVD Magazines from back then were all hilarious without it being based around inside jokes or something.
If they would have promoted the girls/singles better, the singles would have sold better, which would have led to more possibilities to get on TV and who knows what would have come from that. Not everyone was made for variety for sure, but Junjun and Linlin and to some degree even Gaki was definitely made for it. Gaki and Ai I would say were too old school to succeed the way Sayumi has but still. Reina and Eri makes for great company on TV as well. IF they would have been given the chance we have no idea of what would have happened really.

Having that said, of course getting new girls helps. That's a big reason to why they keep staying relevant these days - and a big reason to why they fell out of the spotlight between 2007-2011. But promotion and good guiding from the management side helps just as much if not more.

I think this is a big factor. In hindsight Platinum Era singles were kind of bare bones.

AHHHHHHHH~ What a fantastic thing to wake up to! And my copies arrived at the door right when I was opening up oricon and seeing it. They've been doing so well UF, Tsunku and the Girls. And an almost certain #1 Weekly again.

I'm so ecstatic, if only my family members could understand lol They pretty much just think I'm crazy right now.

Now off to go import my new babies while watching that Ameba Studios clip.
