the first time I ever heard of it was in a movie, and I thought it was "Hogs and Dogs Ice Cream" which I thought was pretty cool  it's what I normally buy (vanilla)

I'm OK with pretty much any brand of ice cream, including generic and supermarket house brands, but there are some brands that I definitely prefer. The best local (San Gabriel Valley) sit-down ice cream parlor is probably Fosselman's, which has been around for a century. For local-brand supermarket ice cream and paletas, I've become thoroughly hooked on Frutifresca.

I've recently been getting It's It ice cream sandwiches. It's vanilla ice cream sandwich on an oatmeal cookie (generally there's like... ONE little raisin), coated in chocolate. I used to have them infrequently as a kid, but I'm an adult now so I go through about 3 a week. :hehe:
I see on their website that they make matcha and pumpkin varieties(??!?!?), but they're only available online and I have neither the freezer space, nor desire to pay $65 for overnight shipping.

We just go for generic stop & shop brand ice cream usually.

...And then I looked up Stop & Shop and noticed it's _very_ regional to the north east. Is Carvel also regional?

It looks like Carvel has at least some national presence - I know that in the L.A. area, Carvel's known for its ice cream cakes.

I'm detecting a theme here. Hogs and Dogs. Ducks. (rikki)kows.

They all have something in common, if I could only put my finger on it...

Speaking of ice cream cakes, my Armenian relatives have a strange Christmas tradition, instituted by one of my cousins. One of the desserts served at the extended family's gathering is a birthday cake for Baby Jesus, complete with at least one candle and the singing of "Happy Birthday to You". The "Baby Jesus Cake" is always a Baskin-Robbins chocolate roll cake with mint chocolate chip ice cream.

I'm in favor of all holidays including at least one tradition that requires lots of ice cream. XD
