Well, I went to Winn-Dixie last night... And left with 3 flavors of Tillamook ice cream. :o I tried Tillamook Mudslide; so much chocolate! Loved it.
They also sell my beloved Mayfield too, but not in pints. Either way, I was pleasantly surprised.

They're forecasting this new tropical system in the Atlantic to go through the middle of Florida... I know things can change quickly, but I'm about to go out and look for a small generator. Trying to evacuate is out of the question.

I’m curious about regional brands and when I looked up Mayfield, I was like, that looks familiar! Garelick Farms is our regional brand though they don’t have an ice cream. That would be Friendlys. Dean Foods owns so many of the regional brands!

^ Dean Foods took over the Detroit-based Stroh's brand (yes, like the beer), and it also licensed the Sanders brand to make Sanders' signature flavors like Hot Fudge and Bumpy Cake for sale in grocery stores.

Sanders itself is a Detroit-based chain of old fashioned candy shoppes and ice cream parlors…

https://www.sanderscandy.com

They used to be everywhere but now only six locations remain, unfortunately. (Seven, if you count Mackinac Island.)

Otherwise, we have Hudsonville and Guernsey…

https://guernseyfarmsdairy.com/products/icecream/

Guernsey is good but expensive. Hudsonville is… okay, depending on the flavor. Stroh's and Sanders are just names; the actual ice cream is what you'd expect from Dean Foods. Frankly, I get the best bang for the buck from Kroger's Private Selection brand.

During the summers when I was growing up (i.e., thirtysomething years ago), we went to the Guernsey storefront every Sunday evening for hand-dipped ice cream cones. It's still there…

On the subject of regional ice cream brands, my mom used to buy Arden Ice Cream when I was little, around 1970. The plastic tubs that it came in were handy for storage, and I especially liked the name. :)

For regional brands we have Brighams. I’m not sure who owns it now. Because all the restaurants closed years ago. Giffords is a regional brand from Maine that I only got when I went to Maine but is now slowly starting to trickle down here to Massachusetts. There there are a few local places. We apparently eat a lot of ice cream in Massachusetts.

I live in Washington, which is just north of Oregon, which is where Tillamook comes from. :hehe: I buy their butter, but for ice cream I mostly go for Breyer's Natural Vanilla & Chocolate flavors (which is definitely NOT local). Tillamook is fine, but a bit creamier than I prefer. Same goes for Full Tilt, Molly Moon's, etc.

I have 9 pints of ice-cream in my freezer right now because of the recent sale at Whole Foods. I’m a big fan of Jeni’s. A lot of people I know love it too. It’s pretty pricy but I don’t mind the splurge.

Most of the time I get Ben & Jerry's or Häagen-Dazs (despite the ridikuulözs spelling), simply because that's what they have at the corner market a couple of blocks from where I live.

When I was in Germany in '84, the only kind of ice cream that seemed to be available was Italian-style gelato, tiny scoops in tiny cones, so when our exchange group returned to JFK, the first place we went after customs and immigration was Häagen-Dazs. When I went back to Germany in '92, Häagen-Dazs was available there, at least in big cities like Frankfurt.
